Switzerland offers additional support package for Moldova

Switzerland has increased the budget for its programmes and projects in Moldova. The announcement was made by Guido Beltrani, director of the Swiss Cooperation Office in Chisinau, during a meeting with Prime Minister Dorin Recean.

"I am pleased that Switzerland has approved an additional support package for 2023, demonstrating its continued support for Moldova in these difficult times. A part of the additional funds will be used to support the state budget through a World Bank trust fund, while another part will be used to finance health projects, promote economic development and improve public services and living conditions in different regions of the country" said Guido Beltrani, Director of the Swiss Cooperation Office in Moldova.

"Through joint Moldovan-Swiss projects, we are achieving the Government's objective of supporting communities in the country. We focus on increasing productivity, economic development, attracting investment and supporting local public authorities. It is important that citizens and business throughout the country benefit from the best conditions for development," said Prime Minister Dorin Recean.

Expected results of the new projects include improved preparedness of the health sector to treat stroke patients; improved energy efficiency of public and private buildings in selected municipalities; improved resilience of small farmers to deteriorating production conditions; and a contribution to the socio-economic integration of Ukrainian refugees into the Moldovan labour market.

Most of the interventions supported by Switzerland are country-wide and support systemic changes and reforms, ultimately benefiting the entire population, especially the most vulnerable and marginalised groups.
