Consular Officer

The Embassy of Switzerland in the Kyrgyz Republic is seeking a highly qualified individual for the position of 

Consular Officer

(Starting 1st July 2026 or by arrangement)

The consular officer is responsible for visa registrations and handlings, client interaction as well as civil status matters and other consular tasks, plus general administrative support under the supervision of the Head of Consular Affairs.

Responsibilities and Tasks:

  • Receiving and preparing visa application files for review;
  • Answering to emails concerning visa matters and Schengen legislation in a timely and competent manner;
  • Sorting and filing visa archives;
  • Administrative assistance to the Head of Consular Affairs; 
  • Ad-hoc translation of interviews;
  • Contact with clients in visa and consular matters, in person or by phone;
  • Consular assistance to Swiss citizens;
  • Civil status affairs such as marriages and birth involving Swiss citizens;
  • Additional tasks in administrative and support matters as needed.

Requirements:

  • Higher education (Bachelor or Masters);
  • At least 5 years of professional experience;
  • Precise, structured and rigorous;
  • Fluency in English and one of the State/official languages, ability to interact in the other. Knowledge of a   Swiss official language is a bonus;
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel and Outlook. Knowledge of other MS Office Programs is a bonus;
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills; ability to interact with a wide variety of interlocutors;
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks;
  • Ability to work in and contribute to an intercultural team.

The Embassy of Switzerland is a value based equal opportunities employer, appointing on merits by open competition. Interested candidates should send a signed motivation letter (of maximum 600 words, describing their background and stating their reasons for applying to the position), and a detailed CV, both in English.

The Embassy will discard any application that does not contain those two elements. Relevant certificates and references will be requested at a later stage.
