Democratic Society Fund (DSF)

Background | The transition of Kosovo from a socialist past to a democratic system must be based on values of equal rights, freedom of speech, integration and participation of all communities. In this process, the civil society and media play a central role. Kosovo is a multiethnic country with Albanians, Serbs, Turks, Goranis, Bosniaks, Montenegrins, Roma, Ashkali, Egyptians living in its territory. Also, the traditional gender specific roles disadvantage the role of women in society. |
Objectives | The overall goal of the DSP is to support the development of a democratic society in Kosovo. The overall aim is to contribute to significant changes towards firmly establishing a democratic society in Kosovo. The intended direction of change is indicated in the objectives and areas of change given below. |
Target groups | Civil Society Organisations (think tanks, watchdog organisations and citizen groups; academia, research institutions, professional associations), and in certain cases municipalities and other administrative units. |
Medium-term outcomes |
Outcome 1: Increase citizen participation and improve transparency and accountability of Kosovar institutions Outcome 2: Improve inter-ethnic coexistence and the integration of non-majority communities in a multi-ethnic Kosovo Outcome 3: Advance gender equality in Kosovo |
