Support to the Humanitarian Response Fund in Ethiopia
Established in 2006, the Humanitarian Response Fund (HRF) managed by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) provides flexible funding for life-saving emergency interventions in Ethiopia. Due to the significant delay and erratic nature of rainfall, the continued influx of refugees as well as sporadic disease outbreaks, Ethiopia is currently facing a serious humanitarian crisis. This contribution to the HRF will allow a flexible, coordinated and needs-based humanitarian response in the country.

Hintergrund |
According to the Humanitarian Requirements Document (HAD) published in January 2015, an estimated 2.9 million people will need emergency food assistance in Ethiopia this year. Additionally, an estimated 381 '000 people were expected to be in need of food assistance during the short rainy season from mid-February to mid-May, subject to verification at mid-year. Overall, the gross emergency food and nonfood requirement for 2015 stands at USD 386 million, a figure only 41% funded to date. In this context, the HRF aims to provide prioritized support to the underfunded humanitarian needs identified by the HAD. |

Resultate |
Erwartete Resultate: Treat acute malnutrition, improve water hygiene and sanitation services, increase access to basic health services, fulfill other basic humanitarian needs, and improve the humanitarian coordination in the country. Project-specific outputs will be formulated by each agency submitting a funding request to the HRF. Resultate von früheren Phasen: Since its establishment in 2006, the HRF has managed and disbursed more than USD 260 million. In 2014 alone, the HRF has allocated USD 18.3 million to 38 projects covering a wide range of interventions such as treatment of malnutrition, emergency water, hygiene and sanitation, health, distribution of non-food items, and agriculture projects. These inerventions benefited more than 1.3 million people in seven regional states in 2014. |

The HRF complements notably SOC's interventions in the Migration and food security sectors. |
