The Federal Council discussed next steps to be taken, based on Switzerland's interests. They form an integral part of the Federal Council's strategy to advance ongoing and future negotiations in various other EU-policy dossiers in their entirety and in a concerted manner, in order to obtain the best possible outcome for Switzerland.
Based on discussions already held with the EU and its member states, the Federal Council also examined its further course of action for the short and medium term. It also reiterated its will to avoid any discrimination against Croatian citizens. An agreement with the EU on this dossier should allow the impasse to be resolved regarding the suspended negotiations and talks on Horizon 2020, Erasmus+ and MEDIA/Culture participation. It should also allow progress to be made regarding institutional issues and the EU's mandate in that respect, and enable negotiations to start in that regard.
In a few weeks' time the FDFA, the FDJP and the Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research (EAER) will report back to the Federal Council on consultations held with the EU.
