Resilient, Inclusive Markets in Moldova

Moldova's growth is volatile and jobless. More and better jobs are needed to ensure its economic recovery, resilience and development, particularly outside large cities. Responding to the Government's request, Switzerland will contribute to supporting key markets in Moldova and, with the help of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), focusing on local markets and value-chains in vulnerable regions. This is complemented by a separate SECO project supporting the International Labour Organisation (ILO) and Decent Work Country Programme of Moldova.
Improving Community Resilience through Sustainable Livelihoods in the Rasht Valley, Tajikistan

The contribution to the Aga Khan Foundation project aims at improving the resilience of livelihoods of the remote rural communities of Rasht valley, vulnerable to climate change. The local population will get equitable access to water and sanitation and childcare services. The population and particularly women will get income generation opportunities and engage in management, regeneration and protection of their natural resources while adopting disaster risk reduction measures and practices.
Strengthening Nursing in Bosnia and Herzegovina

The health system of BiH is expensive and providing poor quality services, partly due to underutilised potential of nurses. With the support of the project, the health authorities will reform the profession of nurses by aligning nursing practice to quality standards, improving their capacities, expanding their tasks and stimulating homebased care and health education. This will enhance the coverage, quality and cost-effectiveness of health services thereby improving the health status of men and women in BiH.
Resilient culture & art for social change

Culture and arts play a key role to promote Palestinian identities, dialogue and freedom of expression. Switzerland contributes with this proposal to a diverse, innovative and more resilient cultural sector able to foster democratic values and voice the needs and aspirations of the civil society. The programme employs art as entry point for social dialogue and builds the entrepreneurial capacities of emerging artists.

Hurricane Ian has caused significant losses in the agricultural and fishing sector limiting the availability and access to food and affecting the livelihoods of the population in the provinces Pinar del Río, Artemisa, Mayabeque and Isla de la Juventud. With its contribution to the World Food Programme through the United Nations Plan of Action, SDC helps providing food assistance and restore food production and livelihoods to meet the needs of 798’000 severely affected people in those provinces.

Systèmes d'approvisionnement en eau et WASH à Toukra 2 et Koundoul N’Djamena

En réponse à la situation d'urgence après les inondations au Tchad, la Suisse a mis à disposition du UNHCR 300 tentes familiales. L'action présente permet à approvisionner les familles sinistrées et des quartiers hôtes circonstants (en tout 20'000) avec quatre forages solaires. Additionnellement, des groupes locaux sont sensibilisés dans l'hygiène et 20 membres de comités d’eau sont formés dans la gestion et à l’administration transparente des systèmes d’approvisionnement en eau.
Fostering Active Civic Engagement (FACE)

Switzerland will extend its support to the Council of Europe and the United Nations Population Fund in Moldova to successfully combine formal and non-formal civic education activities with the aim to increase the participation of youth in decision-making and community affairs: quality civic education is key to promote democratic values, to stimulate civic engagement and to contribute to social cohesion. Zurich University of Teacher Education's expertise will be tapped to strengthen teaching competences for democratic culture.

The project promotes empowerment of women leadership across the humanitarian-development-peace nexus. In line with Swiss priorities and expertise, the project enhances women’s role and participation in the delivery of humanitarian assistance and promoting peacebuilding initiatives. Thereby, it capacitates women leaders and women civil society groups to actively contribute to peaceful coexistence, dialogue and community development and mitigation of protection risks.

Protection and Assistance to Vulnerable Migrants

The project aims to reduce vulnerabilities of forcibly displaced populations from Ukraine in Moldova. It focuses on strengthening protection services with regard to counter-trafficking at central and local levels and aims at enhancing system-wide protection response capacities and ensuring community-level integration. Further, it enhances social cohesion at local level by mitigating vulnerabilities and reducing protection risks, thus, contributing to a strengthened triple nexus in line with the priorities of Switzerland.
DRR Backstopping Services for the Regional DRR & RR Programme in Peru

The backstopping services aims at supporting the Regional Programme for Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and Rapid Response (RR) of SDC’s Regional Hub Lima by providing specific DRR and RR expertise by a number of selected backstoppers and experts and hence to contribute to further strengthen and position the DRR and RR Programme as a DRR and RR center of competence in the region.

Contribution to non-state local governance actors

The project is a contribution to and a strategic partnership with the Coalition of three major non-state actors in the promotion and strengthening of local governance in Kyrgyzstan. They will be financially and technically capacitated and empowered to play their role in advancing local democracy and local governance for the benefit of people in Kyrgyzstan. The partnership builds on over 10 years of Swiss support in local governance in Kyrgyzstan as well as on ownership by the government.
