Support to the UN Convention to Combat Desertification UNCCD

More than 100 countries are affected by desertification, and 42% of the world’s poor live in these areas, posing a serious challenge to sustainable development. The United Nations’ Convention to Combat Desertification works at avoiding, reducing, and reversing desertification, linking sustainable land management to social and economic development. Switzerland, Party to the Convention, provides a core and an additional voluntary financing to specifically contribute to common priorities.

SDC funding to International Committee of the Red Cross operations allows the ICRC to respond proactively and to provide immediate protection and assistance for people affected by armed conflict and other situations of violence. Long-term farming system comparisons in the tropics - SysCom

Current agricultural and food systems rely greatly on non-renewable external inputs, and can carry serious negative impacts on soil, water, biodiversity, nutrition and health. Switzerland supports this unique long-term farming systems comparison research programme led by the Swiss Research Institute for Organic Agriculture, to develop and bring evidence of alternative farming practices contributing to more sustainable food systems globally.
Ethiopia Humanitarian Fund (EHF 2023 – 2026)

More than 28 million people in Ethiopia are in need of humanitarian assistance as a result of internal conflict, displacement, and recurrent natural hazards, primarily drought. An estimated 5.7 million people are displaced internally as a result of conflict (main driver of displacement in the country) and drought. Additional 2 million people are IDP returnees. The country also hosts more about 1mio refugees from Somalia, South Sudan, Eritrea, and Sudan. The Ethiopia Humanitarian Fund is a pooled fund that aims at providing rapid and flexible humanitarian assistance to the most vulnerable and underserved areas. Switzerland has been reconfirmed in 2023 member of the EHF Steering Committee.

CARE International: Breaking the Silence

The proposed project seeks to address key drivers of GBV, promote help-seeking behaviour, access to quality services for survivors and promote economic empowerment of vulnerable women and girls. Some key activities will include the provision of health, psychosocial, and protection support in one (1) existing safe house and three (3) women and girl-friendly spaces (WGFSs), the provision of unconditional emergency cash support to vulnerable survivors and livelihood opportunities. Through the partnership with WIDO, a local women-led organisation, CARE will work to transform negative masculinities and social norms.

International Planned Parenthood Federation

Globally, 25% of women of reproductive age have an unmet need for modern contraception. The International Planned Parenthood Federation provides sexual and reproductive health services in over 145 countries, advocates for sexual and reproductive rights, and contributes to shape context-specific policy solutions that mainly benefit the poor and vulnerable. SDC’s support covers priority issues addressing the remaining gaps such as providing services in humanitarian or conflict-affected contexts.

MOPAN - Annual membership and extraordinary contributions to the Multilateral Organisation Performance Assessment Network for the period 2023-2024

The MOPAN is the only institution offering regular independent performance assessments of major multilateral organisations MO. Switzerland is a founding member of MOPAN. MOPAN’s assessments are a key performance analysis instrument to assess MOs’ work and. They also support Switzerland in effectively steering the governing bodies of MOs. The assessments reduce the individual review burden by members on MOs and contribute to a more effective multilateral system.

Switzerland, Luxembourg and the European Union are joining hands to reform the TVET sector together with the Government of Laos to increase the employability and income of the Lao people. Switzerland’s long-term experience in poverty reduction, vocational training and private sector engagement will support youth to access improved vocational skills development and reach employment through stronger employment service delivery.
