Skills and Reconstruction Project in Western Nepal (SRP)

An earthquake of magnitude 6.4 struck Western Nepal in November 2023, leaving 154 people dead and 375 injured. It was estimated at the time of writing that over 62,000 houses and 600 schools were damaged. Building on the experience in recovery initiatives after the 2015 earthquake, this project will augment government’s efforts in reconstruction of public infrastructure such as schools and provide vocational training on earthquake-resilient construction to masons in the affected area.
Strengthening Capacities for Energy Efficiency in Buildings in Latin America - Phase 2 (CEELA)

The Strengthening Capacities for Energy Efficiency in Buildings in Latin America (CEELA) project will contribute to avoiding CO2 emissions in the building sector and improve thermal comfort for building occupants in Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico and Peru. The focus is on capacity building for real estate developers and on supporting legal frameworks and financing mechanisms for green buildings. The project will further promote Minergie, the Swiss quality standard for sustainable buildings.

La généralisation de la crise sécuritaire au Mali a eu des impacts négatifs en 2023 sur le secteur de l’éducation. Les besoins de protection concernent plus de 500'000 enfants. Avec ce projet, la Suisse permettra à plus de 4'160 élèves dans les régions de Mopti et de Bandiagara d’accéder à une éducation de qualité dans un environnement sûr et protecteur.

OCHA Humanitarian Forum Sudan Crisis

Following the outbreak of violence between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) millions of Sudanese face dire humanitarian needs. The warring parties committed in Jeddah on 7th November to improve the safe and unhindered humanitarian access to persons in need. As part of this commitment, the RSF and the SAF agreed to participate in an OCHA led Humanitarian Forum to work out the operational details.

Tanzania hosts 244’000 refugees, mostly from Burundi and the Democratic Republic of Congo, the majority living in refugee camps. Dropping out of school is a major concern among children refugees, exposing them to an increased risk of child labour, early marriages and pregnancies. By supporting the cost of their yearly school examination, Switzerland contributes to ensure children refugees’ access to education is maintained, enhancing better long-life perspectives.
Land and Natural Resources Local Governance (LAGO)

Switzerland will contribute to good governance of land in Niassa province through strategic partners, who will provide technical assistance to local authorities in land registration, help ensure that the use of land and natural resources benefits the local population, and advocate for a legal system that protects the rights of the local population to the use of land and natural resources, based on Mozambican legislation and international best practices.

EmPower II: Women for Climate Resilient Societies

With EmPower II, SDC contributes to a SIDA-funded project of UN-Women and UNEP promoting climate-resilient development for women and other marginalized groups. SDC’s support enables disaggregated data products for gender-responsive DRR and climate strategies and enhances capacities on the subnational level among policy-makers and CSOs. SDC’s support also facilitates financial access and literacy on renewable energy in Cambodia, Bangladesh and Indonesia.
Forest Restoration and Climate Change in Armenia (FORACCA)

Significant climate change challenges hinder effective forest management in Armenia. To tackle these issues and support the country’s international commitments, the project combines Switzerland's expertise in climate adaptation and forestry with the experience of local NGOs' in forestry. This collaboration aims to strengthen the capacities of public institutions and communities in sustainable management, monitoring, and restoration of forests, as well as in climate-resilient agroforestry.

Le projet renforce le volontariat des jeunes tunisiens et leur participation active à la vie publique, suivant une approche inclusive. Il se fixe comme objectif de permettre aux plus exclus d’entre eux de s’ouvrir au monde des Nations Unies, de s’introduire à la vie professionnelle, d’être intégrés dans la sphère du développement et de réaliser leur plein potentiel. Il est mis en œuvre par le Programme des Volontaires des Nations Unies - Maghreb.

La situation sécuritaire en Haiti s’est dégradée substantiellement et les déplacements par la route de la capitale vers le nord et le sud du pays sont actuellement impossibles. Afin de permettre aux acteurs humanitaires et du développement d’accéder à leurs zones d’intervention, le Bureau humanitaire de Suisse Haiti, dont la majorité des programmes sont mis en œuvre au Sud, apporte un soutien financier à l’organisation de vols humanitaires réguliers dans l’ensemble du pays par UNHAS.

Assistance en soutien psychosocial et protection intégrée pour les populations affectées par le conflit au Burkina Faso

Les populations déplacées internes au Burkina Faso, en particulier les femmes et les filles, sont exposées à des violations de leurs droits. Afin de contribuer à la protection de ces populations vulnérables, la Suisse soutient le projet de protection intégrée. Le projet vise à répondre à l’urgence et à appuyer les acteurs locaux (Etat, associations et communautés) dans la prise en charge des victimes et à réduire leur vulnérabilité en leur donnant des moyens de subvenir à leurs besoins.
Strengthening access to financial mechanisms for disaster risk management in four Andean countries

Subnational authorities in Peru and Ecuador responsible for DRM strengthen their capacities to access central government finance for DRM. The project will provide guidance in developing and accessing funding from existing public, public-private and multilateral DRM funds based on prior country diagnostics. A complementing Community of Practice (Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia and Colombia) fosters exchange of experiences and lessons learned. This is expected to result in enhanced access to available financial resources for DRM for project beneficiaries.
