UNICEF – Improving drinking water quality in Lebanon

Lebanon’s water sector is at risk of collapse. Therefore Switzerland, in partnership with UNICEF supports the provision of safe water through the public service. The proposed intervention is critical to the water sector and serves as emergency support to the population to avoid impacts of collapsed water systems such as cholera. It also lays the ground for longer-term improved water quality in Lebanon.


Production des Connaissances et Appui Institutionnel pour une gestion intégrée des Ressources en Eau au Tchad - ResEau

Le Tchad subit fortement les effets du changement climatique avec des pluviométries aléatoires. Le sous-sol du Tchad dispose d’un important potentiel en eau. Faute de compétences nationales, ces ressources en eau restent très peu mobilisées. La DDC renforce, à travers ce projet, les compétences et les connaissances nationales pour favoriser une gestion durable de ces ressources et contribue ainsi à la résilience du Tchad face aux changements climatiques.


Climate Services for a Resilient Albania (ALBAdapt)

The project will increase Albania’s adaptive capacity and climate resilience through the effective generation and use of climate information and services. It will develop an innovative Multi Hazard Impact Based Early Warning System in line with international standards. The MeteoSwiss expertise will be of added value in leveraging the Green Climate Fund engagement and complementing the SECO contribution to this large strategic project.


Provision of CCCM, protection and social cohesion responses to Sudan crisis affected populations in Renk and Manyo Counties, Upper Nile

01.06.2024 - 31.03.2025

To respond to the needs of the growing number of refugees and returnees crossing the border into South Sudan due to the ongoing crisis in the Sudan, both in camp and host community settings. The intervention will improve CCCM, WASH2 and protection in Renk town, in the Transit Center (TC) at Renk and in the Reception Centre (RC) in Joda and Manyo.

Simulation Exercise "SIMEX 25"

Il s’agit d’entrainer la coordination internationale en cas de tremblement de terre, dans le cadre d’un exercice de simulation aux moyens du simulateur de conduite à Kriens. Douze nations participent à cet exercice (SUI-1 + 11 invitées) réparties en 4 SCC sous la coordination d’un UCC. L’EXCON est internationale.


Futuro Microbank

The microfinance institution Futuro Mcb, SA currently provides financial services (loans, savings, insurance) to micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) mainly in and around Nampula city. Switzerland will continue to support Futuro with a grant for technical assistance that will help the bank to expand its impact by providing financial services to more low-income entrepreneurs in more regions in Northern Mozambique, thus allowing them to enhance their income and create more jobs.


Community Health Provision in Somalia (CHASP)

The programme provides maternal and child health services in Somalia in targeted facilities. It strengthens the capacities of regional and district health authorities including of health personnel working in these facilities. The programme promotes access in terms of basic health services and skilled health personnel at decentralized levels. This is connected to the Swiss interest of promoting service provision and good governance capacities especially at grassroot levels, which also feeds into the transformation/ development agenda of Somalia.


Central African Republic: INSO - Support for the Security of Humanitarian Organizations 2024-2026

The main purpose of the action is to assist humanitarian aid organizations in Central African Republic (CAR) in fulfilling their own mandates with improved protection of relief personnel and improved effectiveness of humanitarian action. There are currently 94 registered organisations in INSO CAR's network (INGO, LNGO, Red Cross Movement, UN agencies) and 5 donors for a total of 99 partners.


Integrated Protection Response Along Frontline Communities and Throughout the Displacement Corridor in Ukraine

The project engages in direct protection of civilians and aims to improve the sustainability, effectiveness and coordination of Ukrainian NGOs operating in frontline communities and along the displacement corridor in Odesa, Mykolaiv, Kherson, Kharkiv, and Donetsk Oblasts. This involves maintaining the delivery of humanitarian aid, while introducing capacity building to improve the quality and safety of the service provision, as well as preparing local actors for early recovery.


Up-Scaling ARC's Risk Transfer System

Switzerland is playing a leading role in the development of innovative financial instruments to mitigate climate risks. This project aims to support the African Union's African Risk Capacity, an early warning and risk transfer system, in protecting 175’000 smallholder rice farmers in Côte d'Ivoire as a pilot project against drought, excessive rainfall and other climate-related challenges, and to strengthen their resilience and sustainability in the face of environmental uncertainties.


Strengthening local governance and civic space in Uzbekistan

The programme will strengthen inclusive local governance, gender-based violence prevention and the civic space in Uzbekistan. It promotes an active civil society and civic engagement of youth and vulnerable groups at local level (locally-led development). Switzerland brings high credibility in local governance and human  rights and acts as convenor and bridge builder. The multi-stakeholder set up with UN, non-governmental organizations and local authorities offers a variety of entry points, allowing agile steering in the complex political environment.  


WHO, EMTCC Sudan response 2024

Following a call for international assistance by the MoH Sudan in May 2024 due to escalating healthcare needs, the Emergency Medical Teams Coordination Cell (EMTCC) in Sudan was activated in July 2024. The EMTCC, hosted by the WHO, addresses critical gaps in Sudan's health response by overseeing the deployment and coordination of Emergency Medical Teams (EMTs) across the country. The core purpose of an EMT Coordination Cell is to ensure that the overall response of EMTs (both National and International) best meet the excess healthcare needs that are a result of the emergency.
