Local Roads Improvement Programme (LRIP – I)

Past SDC interventions have focussed on making rural road construction work for the poor and disadvantaged through labour-intensive construction methods. This project now takes proven approaches further by ensuring even more all-weather accessibility to markets and services by emphasising the importance of maintenance and preservation of built roads through promotion of labour-based roads maintenance methods and by fostering an institutional process in the districts, which should pave the way for the highly successful concepts of road construction and maintenance to be adopted as national standards.

Interregional Arab Labour Migration Program - IRAM

The project focuses on reforms of labour legislation, on employment constraints and potentials and on migrant workers’ rights and their protection in the Maghreb. It provides technical expertise for the reinforcement of state capacities and the strengthening of labour governance. The national legislation and labour codes will be reformed and adapted to international standards. The organization of migrant workers into trade unions will contribute to reducing their exploitation and strengthening their representation.

The Global Programme Migration and Development of SDC supports NIDOE-Swiss in strengthening its skills and expertise and thereby enables it to implement development projects in Nigeria. NIDOE-Swiss will implement a project funded by SDC to improve the vocational training of students and their employability in Nigeria. The organisation's knowledge and skills will contribute to the economic development in Nigeria.

Support to Referendum and Electoral Processes in Zimbabwe (REP)

The referendum on a new constitution in Zimbabwe and the subsequent election due between March and June 2013 may lead to the return of violence. The project helps to mitigate potential electoral conflicts that may arise through capacitating the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC); structured dialogues among the political parties, CSOs and media; the establishment of Multi-Party Liaison Committees (MPLCs); and roll out of large-scale civic and voter education.

Access to Justice in Tajikistan

Legal reform and ensuring legal security for citizens in Tajikistan are cornerstones of the transition. The project aims to improve access to justice for vulnerable people and is contributing to reforms. Through the provision of legal aid services and the monitoring of law application and implementation practices, potential issues for reform shall be identified and analyzed. Reform proposals based on these analyses shall be advocated and discussed between governmental and non governmental actors. At the same time, the awareness and capacities both of legal service users and providers will be strengthened.

African Risk Capacity

The African Risk Capacity (ARC) is a continental index-based weather risk insurance pool and early response mechanism initiated by the African Union. It will offer insurance coverage for governments of African countries transferring risks to the international financial market and complementing national or regional micro-insurance schemes as supported by other SDC organisational units. With this project the SDC will co-finance the design phase implemented by the World Food Programme and after that the Specialized Agency of the African Union in its task to enable more countries to join the ARC.

International Land Coalition

The International Land Coalition (ILC) is a global action network created in 1995 to help address land tenure insecurity and inequality in developing countries. Through its membership (116 members) and its global coverage (ca. 50 countries), ILC combines the strengths of different stakeholders (civil society organisations, international organisations and research centres) to enhance secure and equitable access to land for poor rural populations through influence on country policies and on land-related regional and global processes.

Un’opportunità per tutti i burkinabé di ricevere un’istruzione di base

In Burkina Faso, un terzo dei bambini in età scolastica, vale a dire circa un milione di ragazze e ragazzi, non hanno accesso all’istruzione e il 70 per cento degli adulti è analfabeta. Per queste persone devono essere sviluppati moduli d’istruzione alternativa. Dal 2006, grazie al sostegno della DSC all’istruzione di base, oltre un milione di burkinabè dai 15 anni in su hanno imparato a leggere e scrivere.

Bangladesh Climate Change Resilience Fund (BCCRF) – Contribution

The Bangladesh Climate Change Resilience Fund was set up by bilateral development partners in 2010 to support Bangladesh address climate change adaptation and mitigation. The fund is currently endowed with USD 170 million from the UK, EU, USA, Australia, Sweden, Denmark and Switzerland and administrated by the World Bank. A planned replenishment, to which Switzerland will contribute with the present proposal, will increase the level of funding of this innovative mechanism to USD 274 million by mid-2013.

Rights and Resources Initiative - Phase III

The Rights and Resources Group (RRG) is the formal coordination mechanism of the Rights and Resources Initiative (RRI). It is a multidonor initiative that supports forest tenure and user rights reforms in developing countries with particular focus on those countries that have committed to mitigate greenhouse gases through REDD+. It addresses the forest carbon issues from a co-benefit perspective including poverty reduction, climate protection and sustainable resources use.

Revue Internationale de Politique de Développement

L’appui de la DDC à la Revue a pour but de consolider l’existence de la seule revue internationale faite en Suisse et consacrée à la coopération internationale. La Revue a deux parents : la DDC et l’Institut des Hautes Etudes Internationales et du Développement à Genève. Cette revue est une plateforme multi-usage pour la DDC. Le but du financement est l’utilisation de la Revue comme une ressource externe pour la réflexion et la communication sur la mise en œuvre de la stratégie de coopération internationale de la Suisse.
