A substantial decline in the security situation in Syria has led to an ever increasing outflow of refugees into the neighboring countries of Jordan, Lebanon, Turkey, Iraq and Egypt. Host governments are increasingly under pressure to provide life-saving humanitarian aid while experienced humanitarian actors are required to increase scale and capability to respond. This proposed project seeks to fill the gaps found in humanitarian assistance to those affected by the Syrian crisis living outside the UNHCR refugee camps in Jordan.

Support to Strengthening Governance and Policy Dialogue in Health Sector in Moldova

To advance the Moldova health sector reform agenda, a strong stewardship/governance is needed, which requires adequate capacities to carry out this function effectively. The project is a joint effort of SDC –WHO, which will support the elaboration of a research agenda, conducting policy studies, updating regulations, participatory development of a performance monitoring system, institutional capacity building and mapping the health sector investment. The proposed intervention contributes to setting a favourable environment for health reforms and provides opportunities for sustainable implementation of SDC health portfolio projects.

La DDC prend des mesures qui facilitent la transition entre activités d’urgence et de développement. Elle compte ainsi relancer ses activités de développement dans les cercles de Youwarou, Niafunké et de la ville de Tombouctou. Cet appui est destiné aux autorités locales. Il concerne la reconstruction, la relance agricole et l’amélioration de l’accès aux services de base.

The aim of this intervention is to enhance social engagement and participation, to promote the role of people as agents of change and to strengthen social accountability in the oPt. SDC will support initiatives that use arts and culture as a means to enhance democratic debates, promote social inclusion and active participation within the communities and between the communities and the local authorities. The initiatives will favour the participation of youth and women in local public debates.

Trans-Border Dialogue for Peace in the Great Lakes Region

Jointly with the Swedish Development Cooperation (SIDA) and the Division Human Security (DHS), SDC will support a program on trans-border dialogue for peace in the Great Lakes region run by Interpeace. Through a research and dialogue process, the program seeks to address the root causes behind the recurrent conflicts in the Great Lakes region and will propose and disseminate concrete consensus-based solutions to decision makers taking into account the concerns and recommendations of local populations.

The Democratic Governance Programme is Switzerland’s main support to Bhutan to help make its young democracy more robust, citizen-centred and accountable. The programme sets out to combat corruption at its roots, to enhance public services in the mountainous country, to foster a pluralist media, and to engage Bhutan’s young population in the democratic process. Rounding off several decades of bilateral cooperation, this programme achieves a high degree of integration into national plans and systems.

Seit 1992 trägt mediCuba-Suisse zur Erhaltung und Verbesserung der für alle zugänglichen kubanischen Gesundheitsversorgung bei. Für die nächsten vier Jahre (2013 – 17) ist eine Neuausrichtung und Konsolidierung der Arbeit, u. a. durch die Einrichtung einer professionellen Koordinationsstelle vor Ort geplant. Anstelle der bisherigen punktuellen Beiträge wird die DEZA für diese Phase jährliche Beiträge an das wirkungsvolle und in Kuba sehr geschätzte Gesundheitsprogramm von mediCuba-Suisse leisten.

Kosovo has initiated a wide-ranging health sector reform, a cornerstone of which is the introduction of the mandatory health insurance. Given the complexity of the reforms, technical support will be crucial in assisting an effective implementation. Moreover, a better informed targeting of public subsidies will protect poor people from either foregoing health care or being impoverished due to out of pocket payments for health care in case of ill health.

National Water Resources Management in Uzbekistan

This project aims at supporting the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources in the water management, by strengthening their capacities at local and central levels, by improving the management of water-related data within the country and by supporting the establishment of strategic and legislative framework conditions for the development of the water sector. To improve the prevention of flood-related disasters and the preparedness of the authorities and the population, a pilot project will be carried out on a small river shared by Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan.

UNHCR: Protection for Refugees and Asylum Seekers in Morocco

Although Morocco has signed relevant international agreements, so far no asylum legislation has been adopted and UNHCR continues to provide protection and assistance to refugees and asylum seekers in lieu of the state. In the light of increasing protection needs, the Swiss contribution expands and strengthens UNHCR’s operational capacities and establishes a strategic protection partnership with the Agency. In as far as possible, state authorities will be involved in the reinforcement of local protection capacities.
