WASH Emergency Basis Schools Gaza (TdH)

The project aims at improving the health environment conditions of the students in public schools and to contribute to restore minimum standards of access to safe drinking water and appropriate sanitation facilities through emergency rehabilitation of the water infrastructures and sewage networks. The project will be implemented by Terre des hommes in coordination with the Ministries of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE) and the selected schools. The project is a direct contribution to the emergency and early recovery efforts in the Gaza Strip.

Mainstreaming Social Accountability in Mongolia (MASAM)

The project aims to mainstream social accountability for more transparent, accountable and effective public resource management at national and local levels by (1) increasing the capacity of CSOs to hold government to account; and (2) strengthening the institutionalization of social accountability by improving the effectiveness, formalization and sustainability of disclosure and participation mechanisms. Through social accountability, citizens in poor localities will have increased access to public decision-making processes and quality services.

Alternative Nobel Prize

The Right Livelihood Award (RLA) or so-called “Alternative Nobel Prize” is bestowed to individuals that offer concrete solutions to global challenges including sustainable development and poverty eradication. The contribution of SDC aims to establish a second RLA Foundation office in Geneva which will allow the RLA Foundation and the laureates to reach out and better network with the Geneva-based UN organizations, civil society, research community and media.

La DSC assiste le autorità cambogiane in un ambizioso processo di decentramento avviato nel 2001. Obiettivo dichiarato: dotare le autorità locali e provinciali delle risorse e delle competenze necessarie affinché possano offrire servizi pubblici di qualità alla popolazione. L’idea è anche che le cittadine e i cittadini siano in grado di esprimere il proprio parere in merito.

Forgiare una «cultura del Nilo» comune attraverso la musica e la formazione accademica

Per fare del bacino del Nilo un territorio comune e un ecosistema condiviso dagli abitanti degli undici Paesi attraversati dal fiume, la DSC sostiene un progetto musicale ed educativo innovativo: «The Nile Project», il progetto del Nilo. L’iniziativa raggruppa artisti, studenti e cittadini. Dal 2013, si è svolta una serie di concerti di grande successo, e contemporaneamente alcuni studenti hanno cominciato a sviluppare iniziative per promuovere un migliore uso delle risorse idriche.

Rethinking Sanitation Systems: Resource Recovery and Safe Reuse (RR&R)

Building on the research results of the first phase, this project will directly address the combined challenges of making resource recovery and reuse a viable business opportunity and implementing Resource Recovery and Safe Reuse (RR&R) businesses in Kampala and Lima. At the same time the project will reduce public health and environmental risks associated with reuse and pave the way for scaling up Sanitation Safety Planning (SSP) at the global level.

Microassicurazioni per coltivatori di riso in Asia

La sigla RIICE sta a designare un progetto di sviluppo realizzato nell’ambito di un partenariato tra settore pubblico e privato che combina innovazione tecnologica e assicurazione del raccolto. Il progetto punta a promuovere la sicurezza alimentare attraverso la concessione di microassicurazioni in caso di perdita del raccolto e a migliorare le l’affidabilità delle previsioni grazie all’impiego di una tecnologia satellitare d’avanguardia. Questo progetto innovativo andrà a beneficio di milioni di piccoli coltivatori di riso in Asia.

The international dialogue on migration and development subsumes different global processes and activities by a number of key stakeholders. In this context, the debate on migration and development has evolved rapidly and has generated outcomes that improve the protection of migrants and enhance their development contribution. Switzerland has played a significant role in this process. SDC will continue supporting relevant initiatives, institutions and partners to further strengthen the global governance on migration and development.

Improved Access to Markets for Female and Male Fresh Fruits and Vegetable (FFV) Small Scale Producers in the West Bank

The project aims to enhance productivity of women and men farmers and improve relations with the market and service providers, thus contributing to better connect the supply side with the demand side. It will facilitate a process which should enhance the capacities and abilities of key actors to play their role along the selected Fresh Fruit and Vegetable (FFV) value chains. This project merges two existing projects in the West Bank: i) Access to markets project and ii) the olive oil market for the poor project.

Sanitation Market Systems (SanMarkS)

Through the project Sanitation Market Systems (SanMarkS), the poor and disadvantaged will benefit from a better wellbeing due to improved hygienic sanitation solutions which are offered by the private sector in a sustainable manner. As a result of the project, funded by SDC and UNICEF, the private sector service providers in collaboration with public actors will respond to the needs and demand of the rural poor and provide improved sanitation services to at least 450,000 people in at least six districts of Bangladesh.

Nepal, SET, Emergency Response Earthquake

An earthquake of the magnitude of 7.8 hit Nepal and neighbouring countries in the early daylight hours of 25th April 2015. The result was substantial infrastructural damage across 30 out of 75 Nepali districts and a casualty toll rising to 1’900 death by the 26the April 2015. Swiss Humanitarian Aid has taken the decision to deploy an interdisciplinary team consisting of expertise in WASH, medical response, shelter/structural engineering and logistics in order to support local and international actors in their efforts to respond to the emergency.

Sloping Land Management (SLM)

SDC has worked with the Ministry of Land and Environmental Protection since 2004 to empower farmer groups to apply new agroforestry practices on steeply sloped land. These entail participatory land use planning, reforestation and conservation farming. The concept is humanitarian in nature and designed to address the issue of food security amongst rural populations. This phase of the programme will focus on spreading these practices further and introducing methodologies which reduce the risks of disasters that threaten rural areas.
