In line with the Good Humanitarian Donorship (GHD) principles, Switzerland recognizes the necessity of predictable and flexible funding to respond to changing needs in humanitarian crises. SDC funding to ICRC operations allows the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to respond proactively and to provide immediate protection and assistance for people affected by armed conflict and other situations of violence.

Strengthening institutional capacity for treatment and care for HIV/AIDS patients

Swiss Aids Care International (SACI) runs a nurse led family centred clinic in Harare that offers comprehensive treatment, care and support of high quality to poor people infected by HIV. SACI trains nurses to take over clinical tasks previously reserved to doctors only to address the huge shortage on health services in Zimbabwe. SACI also develops and applies an efficient electronic medical record system. A recent external review rated SACI as a centre of excellence.

In line with the Good Humanitarian Donorship (GHD) principles, Switzerland recognizes the necessity of addressing underfunded crisis in a more predictable manner. SDC funding to UNICEF emergency programmes in 8 underfunded emergency situations allows UNICEF to better plan its assistance programmes and proactively respond to situations as needed. Moreover contributions will not be thematically earmarked.

Contributions 2016 to OCHA Field Operations in Africa

OCHA is responsible for bringing together humanitarian actors to ensure coherent response to emergencies and to facilitate the work of operational humanitarian agencies in the field. SDC aims to support OCHA in delivering its core functions in humanitarian coordination, advocacy and policy development. Therefore, SDC seeks to provide support to OCHA field offices in relevant humanitarian contexts, in line with SDC geographic and thematic priorities.

In Ucraina orientale la crisi perdura e milioni di abitanti sono ancora privi di acqua e medicinali. Le organizzazioni umanitarie attive sul posto devono far fronte a diversi ostacoli nel distribuire gli aiuti alla popolazione. L’Ufficio per il coordinamento degli affari umanitari delle Nazioni Unite cerca di trovare soluzioni a questo problema. La DSC fornisce all’Ufficio fondi e personale esperto e trae a sua volta vantaggio dai servizi dell’agenzia nell’ambito delle sue operazioni umanitarie.
