Safeguarding children’s rights in East Jerusalem

By supporting a comprehensive child protection programme in occupied East Jerusalem, Switzerland aims to ensure that vulnerable children at risk of being in conflict with the law or directly affected by the conflict, together with their families, have access to appropriate preventive and protection programmes. The intervention, implemented by UNICEF and its partners, is in line with Switzerland's engagement for the respect of human rights and international humanitarian law in the occupied Palestinian territory.

Despite many advances in the law and policy environment towards recognition of gender equality and new mechanisms for promotion and protection of women’s human rights, women worldwide still experience multiple forms of discrimination. SDC supports the International Women’s Rights Action Watch (IWRAW) Asia Pacific, which is an international non-governmental organisation working nationally, regionally, and internationally towards the achievement of women's human rights.

UN Global Compact Core Contribution 2017 - 2020

The United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) is the largest corporate responsibility platform worldwide, and one of the most successful UN-Private Sector partnerships. Switzerland has been a major supporter of the UNGC from its inception and, with this seventh phase core contribution, is supporting the implementation of the UNGC’s 2017-2020 strategy – called the 2020 Strategy – which has the overarching objective of mobilizing a global movement of responsible companies and organizations to create a better world.

Contribution to UN Trust Fund to End Violence against Women

Switzerland is renewing its contribution to the system-wide United Nations Trust Fund to End Violence against Women (UNTF). As the only global multilateral grant-making mechanism exclusively devoted to supporting local and national efforts to ending violence against women and girls (EVAW/G), including in fragile and conflict contexts, the UNTF has the advantage to possess a global overview of the legal provisions and practices, methods of prevention and types of support services needed. Dissemination of good practice will be strengthened to inform policy and programming.

Phasing out - Enhancing Youth Employability in the Gaza Strip –Phase II

The project aims at supporting the development of the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) sector in Gaza responding to the labour market needs and aligning to the national TVET strategy in order to improve youth employability. This second and final phase will focus on consolidating the achievements of phase one through the institutionalization of the Centre of Competence concept, enhanced involvement of the private sector and systematic technical cooperation between West Bank and Gaza and among stakeholders active in the TVET sector in Gaza.

Sustainable management protects people and their livelihoods in Tajikistan

Flash floods and mudslides are examples of hazards that threatens inhabitants of Muminabad district in Tajikistan. Switzerland is supporting a project to reduce the risk of natural disasters in four watersheds of the district. The project of Caritas Switzerland relies on a sustainable agriculture and livestock production with a strong involvement of local communities and authorities.

Die DEZA fördert den Zugang von Kulturschaffenden aus Asien, Afrika, Lateinamerika und Osteuropa zum Schweizer Kulturmarkt und internationalen beruflichen Netzwerken. Sie leistet einen finanziellen Beitrag an das Büro für Kulturkooperation „artlink“ für die Dokumentation, Information sowie die Vermit-tlung von Engagements von KünstlerInnen aus dem Süden und Osten in der Schweiz. Zudem können Kulturveranstalter beim SüdKulturFonds Gesuche für Auftritte aus dem Süden und Osten einreichen.

In the fragile and conflict affected context of Somalia, SDC’s contribution to the Somalia Resilience Programme Consortium (SomReP) enables pastoral, agro-pastoral and peri-urban poor to increase their ability to prepare for, adapt to and live through shocks without eroding their productivity or assets. This intervention focuses on capacity building, livelihood diversification and the elaboration of community-based early warning systems and is complementary to ongoing shorter term emergency and longer term development interventions across the Region.

CORIGAP: Closing rice yield gaps in Asia

SDC supports IRRI (international Rice Research Institute) and its national research and extension partners in six major rice granaries of Asia (China, Indonesia, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Vietnam) to develop science-based, quantitative tools and participatory methods to i) generate evidence, and ii) optimize ‘integrated sustainable irrigated rice production systems’ in order to increase rice yield and enhance regional and global food security while minimizing the environmental footprint of irrigated rice production.

Access to Justice in Tajikistan

Through this project, Switzerland will accompany the Government in realizing a state system providing free legal aid, which will allow the vulnerable (poor) individuals in Tajikistan to better protect their rights and in particular to claim various benefits (e.g. pensions, child allowances). This system will replace the current NGO provided legal aid services. A space for dialogue between civil society and state authorities will also be preserved and will contribute to addressing further legal challenges faced by the population.

***African Risk Capacity (ARC)***

The African Risk Capacity is a specialised agency of the African Union to help African countries improve their capacities to better respond to extreme weather events such as droughts and floods, therefore protecting the food security of their populations. It uses modern finance mechanisms such as risk pooling to create pan-African climate response systems. SDC co-finances the expansion of this insurance scheme to new countries, including the development of contingency plans that will allow insurance pay-outs to countries in case of drought or floods related catastrophes.

Regional Development Programme in Northern Albania

Citizens of Albania will benefit from better social and economic opportunities. Since many Albanian citizens face the negative consequences of social, economic and environmental disparities between and within regions of the country, the project will tackle these disparities by strengthening the institutions working on regional development through an active involvement of all relevant stakeholders and increasing strategic investments in the regions.
