Après la transition démocratique de 2014-16, les Burkinabés aspirent toujours à une meilleure gouvernance économique et politique, plus de sécurité et de justice sociale. La Suisse entend renforcer la citoyenneté et la démocratie pour améliorer les politiques publiques et leur mise en œuvre au profit des populations, notamment des jeunes et des femmes. L’intervention, en contribuant à la paix et la stabilité dans le pays et la région, répond aux intérêts de la Suisse.

Switzerland has been committed to the global Development Effectiveness Agenda since the process started in 2005. It is active in the Global Partnership for Effective Development Cooperation (GPEDC) that was created in 2011 to lead the discussions on development effectiveness and bridge the gap between the SDGs and the implementation at country level. The Swiss Focal Point for Aid Effectiveness is coordinating the work related to the Paris Declaration and Aid Effectiveness nationally and internationally.

Making Labour Market Work for Young People in Albania

The Albanian economy has difficulties to absorb young people entering the job market. By addressing all dimensions of employment, namely labor demand, job intermediation and labor supply, RisiAlbania project will apply a comprehensive approach to reduce the high youth unemployment (28.9% in 2016). The project will facilitate private sector growth in targeted sectors, leading to creation of 2200 new jobs, by the end of 2021. lt will contribute to 3000 young people placed in jobs and 7500 youth improved their market-oriented skills.

Mercato del lavoro più inclusivo per le donne nel Caucaso meridionale

Nei tre Paesi del Caucaso meridionale (Armenia, Azerbaigian e Georgia) molte donne sono vittime di discriminazioni sul mercato del lavoro. Una politica delle pari opportunità che sostenga la creazione di posti di lavoro nell’economia formale non esiste, le donne lavorano nel sistema informale e non sono tutelate. Il progetto «Women’s Economic Empowerment in the South Caucasus» (empowerment economico delle donne nel Caucaso meridionale) mira a promuovere l’emancipazione delle donne nel settore economico per favorire l’accesso paritario al mercato del lavoro e al mondo imprenditoriale.

Indo-Swiss Collaboration in Biotechnology (ISCB)

The Indo-Swiss Collaboration on Biotechnology is a long-standing (over 40 years) agricultural research cooperation between Switzerland and India. It aims to develop products (seed varieties, cultivation techniques) that respond to the needs of India’s smallholder farmers. Currently, four networks of Indian and Swiss institutions are researching on biofertilizer and –irrigation, finger millet, pigeon pea and cassava. A final phase will allow them to finalize their research, and give space to properly document the partnership and develop knowledge products.

Efficient and Accountable Local Governance

Local Governments in Bangladesh are tasked to deliver important public services like education, agricultural extension and health. The project supports the clarification of functions for the local public sector, the enhancement of financial management and citizen participation for increased accountability in service delivery, with a focus on the sub-district level, and strengthening women’s participation in political processes.

Grain Post-Harvest Loss Prevention (GPLP)

GPLP aims at improving food security and income of small holder men and women farmers in the Central Corridor of Tanzania by addressing major constraints in post-harvest practice, access to improved technologies and adoption, knowledge sharing and related policies. Helvetas Swiss Intercooperation is implementing GPLP using a market system development approach and working through multi-stakeholder partnerships with private sector and public organizations. This is the second and exit phase of GPLP.

Switzerland supports the Assembly of North Macedonia to become an effective, transparent and independent institution by supporting the Parliament’s institutional development, its oversight and legislative capacities and its transparency and accountability towards citizens, including marginalized groups. This includes changes to the regulatory framework, the promotion of a political culture of consensus building, capacity building for MPs, parliament staff and CSOs and improved electronic architecture for effective and transparent communication.

Progressing towards Universal Health Coverage in Moldova

Through this project, Switzerland will support the Moldovan government's efforts to ensure access to healthcare services for all and to protect the population against impoverishing health expenditures. Towards an innovative oral combination treatment for visceral leishmaniasis

Visceral leishmaniasis is a neglected tropical disease and fatal if left untreated in over 95% of cases. Existing therapies have serious drawbacks in terms of safety, drug resistance, field-adapted use, cost, length and tolerability. Drugs for Neglected Disease initiative, a non-profit drug research and development organization, carries out preclinical activities on two drug compounds for the development of an oral combination therapy for this disease that mainly affects the poor.

The “Society, culture and memory” programme promotes culture and historical memory in Central America to stimulate processes leading towards more inclusive, less violent societies. Both culture and historical memory have enormous potential to help to create identities and transform societies in the Central American region, which has been characterized by inconclusive peace and democratization processes and the highest rates of violence in the world. With its long presence in the region and its impartial reputation, Switzerland is well positioned to enhance these processes

Community-led Outreach on Safe Migration (COSM)

This single-phase project will complement a larger EU-supported project aiming at making people aware about safe migration at the Union and Upazilla level. The project will also pilot a pre-employment module developed by the Global Program Migration and Development and used in Sri Lanka, to verify its effectiveness in the context of Bangladesh. It is expected that the evidence generated in this project will feed into a larger SDC-funded project, to start in 2019.
