Improving Health for everyone through sanitation safety planning

The Sustainable Development Goal 6.2 aims to provide safely managed sanitation for all by 2030. SDC supports the scaling-up of the World Health Organization’s “Guidelines on Sanitation and Health” and its “Sanitation Safety Planning” tool which supports policymakers and practitioners build and manage safe sanitation systems. By capitalizing on Swiss expertise on sanitation, this intervention will make an important contribution to the 2030 Agenda on access to safe sanitation.

Core contribution to Sanitation and Water for All (SWA) global partnership

This core contribution to the global partnership Sanitation and Water for All hosted by UNICEF aims at strengthening the capacities of populations to enjoy their rights to water and sanitation. SWA supports countries that are off track in progressing towards the Sustainable Development Goal on water, including through a mutual accountability mechanism. The opening of an operational office of SWA in Geneva will enrich this growing community of global water actors, allowing SWA to work more closely also with key human rights and public health actors.

ECW - Education Cannot Wait

The programme aims to improve access and continuation of education of crises affected children and youth from the onset of an emergency and during protracted crises. With its nexus approach, the ECW ensures the bridge between humanitarian and development objectives through flexible funding mechanisms from early response to longer-term resilience by supporting community-based education, innovative approaches to improve the quality of learning, and by creating safer learning environments.

Decent Employment for Youth in Cambodia

Switzerland together with UN will strengthen Cambodia’s Technical and Vocational Education System to address key challenges for its large young population entering the labour market every year. The project supports young women and men to acquire relevant skills and information to respond to current and future labour market needs and to obtain decent and productive employment. It also contributes to more inclusive policies and improved coordination with the private sector.

FDHAS - Strengthening Social Audits and Economic, Political and Civil Rights

The program contributes to the functioning of the Rule of Law by strengthening five civil society organizations and the United Nations Development Program that jointly fortify the social movements and organizations in the regions of the Gulf of Fonseca and the Muskitia, carrying out actions in favor of human rights, transparency and the fight against corruption, diminishing the high levels of polarization in the society.

PAPI - Programme d’Appui à la Petite Irrigation

Au Niger, la sécurité alimentaire dépend des performances des exploitations familiales qui ne parviennent plus à assurer leur propre alimentation. La Suisse accompagne la petite irrigation (domaine prioritaire du gouvernement nigérien) pour offrir aux femmes et aux jeunes des opportunités d’emploi et de revenus agricoles, mais aussi pour moderniser les EF et contribuer à la sécurité alimentaire du pays. Ceci contribuera également à la paix et à la stabilité du Niger.

GCERF - Beitrag an den „Core Funding Mechanism” CFM des Global Community Engagement and Resilience Fund

Im Rahmen ihres Engagements zu Gewaltprävention in fragilen Kontexten unterstützt die Schweiz die Organisation Global Community Engagement and Resilience Fund, die in ausgewählten Ländern Initiativen zur Stärkung der Widerstandskraft gegenüber dem gewalttätigen Extremismus unterstützt, die zu besserer sozialen Kohäsion und Vertrauensbildung führen. Mit ihrem Sitz in Genf trägt die Organisation zur Visibilität der Schweiz im Bereich Frieden und Sicherheit bei und stärkt den Standort Genf. Mitarbeitende des EDA sind im Vorstand vertreten.

Support to Relief and Recovery from COVID-19

The proposed interventions support the Government of Nepal in its efforts to contain the further spread of COVID-19 and to address the socio-economic consequences, in particular for disadvantaged groups. As a trusted partner and with its longstanding experience in development cooperation, Switzerland is well positioned to effectively provide relief and recovery during, and in the aftermath of the pandemic, in close collaboration with local and international stakeholders.

Programme de réponse à la pandémie Coronavirus 2019, COVID-19 Grands Lacs

Grace à son engagement de longue durée et son expertise reconnue dans le domaine de la santé, l’appui de la Suisse permettra aux pays de la région des Grands Lacs (Burundi, RD Congo et Rwanda) de renforcer leurs systèmes sanitaires, d’augmenter la surveillance de COVID-19, notamment par l’amélioration de la qualité et l’accessibilité des soins de santé de 27 millions de personnes, et de protéger les populations de l’épidémie. Ainsi, l’intervention contribuera à sauver des vies et à maintenir le capital humain, gage de tout développement.

RPSA COVID-19 Response

SDC will provide to Zambia, Lesotho, Tanzania, Zimbabwe and Mozambique urgent assistance to support health facilities to cope with COVID-19 pandemic. In Zimbabwe, it will also help the food aid delivery system by increasing distribution points so that safety conditions are respected. By Investing in a strong COVID-19 response as a first mover, SDC safeguards its previous investments and long-term development outcomes in these countries.

Transforming Food Systems

The UN Food Systems Summit will take place in autumn 2021 (FSS21). It will be a catalytic moment for public mobilization and actionable commitments to invest in diverse ways in the transformation of food systems towards more sustainability, healthy nutrition, and resilience against climate change and epidemics. Switzerland’s contribution to the FSS21 preparatory process is support to a) a Swiss Sustainable Food Systems Event in Rome; b) the WEF Food Systems Initiative (FSI), c) the FSS21 Special Envoy Secretariat and d) enhanced communication.

Participation des femmes dans le processus de paix, de sécurité et de relèvement au Mali

Au Mali, les crises ont fortement impacté les femmes, mais celles-ci n’ont pas été incluses dans les efforts vers une réconciliation nationale. Le Plan d’Action National sur les femmes, la paix et la sécurité vise à renverser cette tendance. Un soutien à sa mise en œuvre par l’intermédiaire d’ONU Femmes et de Women in Law & Development Africa (WILDAF) favorisera une participation réelle des femmes dans les négociations de paix et la reconstruction post-conflit, le respect de leurs droits, et contribuera à la stabilisation du pays et de la sous-région.
