Sustainable Economic Development: ph. 02

In the southern provinces of Kyrgyzstan, many households are still excluded from economic activities and depend on remittances. The current Covid-19 pandemic further weakens these families. The project will improve the quality of agricultural products and develop new market opportunities to increase the resilience of target groups. Best practices from phase 1 will be scaled up to other regions.

Mit dem Ziel, Stimmen von Künstler*innen in zivilgesellschaft­lich relevanten Prozessen zu stärken, unterstützt die DEZA die Weiterentwicklung eines unabhängigen Filmsektors in Asien, Afrika, Lateinamerika und Osteuropa. Die Stiftung trigon-film ist ein Filmverleiher und bringt Filme aus diesen Regionen in die Schweizer Kinos. Sie berät und unterstützt die Filmemacher*innen, damit sie sich im internationalen Filmmarkt bekannt machen können.  


AgriPath: Empowering farmers’ transition to sustainable agriculture through effective and efficient digital pathways

500 million smallholder farmers need to increase their agriculture productivity, income and climate resilience. There is a lack of scientifically validated evidence on the effectiveness and cost efficiency of digital agriculture services. AgriPath aims to bring sustainable agriculture[1] to scale by identifying, evaluating, and promoting promising pathways for digitally supported agricultural advisory services. 

[1] The Consortium will embrace current concepts of climate resilient agriculture, climate smart agriculture, sustainable land management and agro-ecology.

SYP Safeguard Young People in Eastern African countries

The SYP program contributes to improve sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) of young people, thus  reducing gender based health inequities. It supports the adoption, domestication and implementation of policies, and strengthens young people’s competencies on and access to SRHR services. The expansion to Tanzania and Rwanda leverages on the  experience in Southern Africa financed by SDC, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA)’s thematic expertise and convening power.


Udaya – Investment and Innovation for Economic Development

This programme aims for women and men to benefit from socioeconomic progress through growth and innovation of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Province 1 of Nepal. Working with the provincial government, it will enhance the framework conditions for SMEs by enabling access to pertinent business development services, growth capital, and information on relevant public initiatives and services. It leverages Switzerland’s expertise in private sector development, blended finance, and federalisation.


PROTECT- Programme de renforcement de l’environnement protecteur au Mali

Au Mali, les conflits et des pratiques néfastes violent le droit à la vie, à l’intégrité physique et à la sécurité de près de 4'000’000 personnes (soit 20% de la population) qui se trouvent en besoin de protection. Affaibli au Nord et au Centre du pays, 1’Etat n’est pas en mesure de protéger leurs droits. La Suisse, l’USAID et les Pays-Bas contribuent à la protection des citoyen/nes, en renforgant sur le long terme les services publics de protection via Ie nexus et en améliorant la cohésion sociale (paix).


Financing Basin Development at Municipal Level (Localized Blue Peace)

Whit this contribution, Switzerland catalyses the set-up of a technical assistance facility, managed by the United Nations Capital Development Fund. Based on Swiss experience, municipalities in developing countries are supported in managing innovative water-related multi-sector projects in the context of wider basin development (localized Blue Peace). Inclusive economic development based on a self-sustaining financing model will be enhanced.

Investing in UN-Water: accelerating progress on SDG 6

UN-Water is the ‘one voice’ of the UN system on all water and sanitation related issues. It is responsible for the monitoring and reporting of SDG 6 and strengthens the global water agenda. By maintaining its support to UN-Water, the SDC helps to reduce the fragmentation of the water sector and contributes to accelerating the achievement of SDG 6, thus keeping its global commitment towards the 2030 Agenda.

RWSN - Rural Water Supply Network

Universal access to safe, affordable water is at the core of the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6 and key to the realisation of human rights. However, achieving this in rural areas is particularly challenging given the high levels of poverty and discrimination as well as poor infrastructure. The Rural Water Supply Network (RWSN) is the only global network that offers powerful mechanisms to share expertise and collaborate with local and global partners to effectively address these water issues.

Nature Conservation Programme

Switzerland supports North Macedonia in sustainable management of natural resources through practical application of conservation measures in the Bregalnica region. In the exit phase, institutions and organizations will be further strengthened for an effective management of protected areas, introduction of payments for ecosystem services and implementation of measures set out in the national strategies. By promoting sustainably produced products and services, economic benefit for the local population will be generated.

Boosting decentralized water solidarity mechanisms at the Swiss and global level - Bridging Phase solidarit’eau suisse

Today, still about 2 billion people do not have access to safe drinking water and 2.4 billion people lack access to basic sanitation. Municipalities and water utilities can play a key role in mobilizing additional financial resources and know-how into water supply and sanitation in developing countries through a solidarity mechanism. This bridging credit will help to transform and relaunch the platform solidarit’eau suisse to evolve towards a financially sustainable initiative.
