Mozambique UNICEF Country program support

Through UNICEF country program support, Switzerland contributes to integrated climate resilience, disaster risk reduction and preparedness in the WASH sector for communities at risk of cyclonic events. The program focuses on communities facing the triple risk of lacking access to WASH while being exposed to climate-related and health-related hazards. In addition, UNICEF program will respond to specific gaps in the emergency response at national and sub-national levels and prepare the WASH sector for a joint and systematic approach to climate change.
Araket for better life in new settlements

Residents of the new settlements are the most vulnerable and are largely invisible to state support. Due to lack of legal status in their place of residence and lack of awareness, these residents have limited access to public services. Switzerland decided to support these left-behind population by raising awareness of their rights, providing access to public services, involving local governments in improving living conditions, creating economic opportunities for women and thus reducing their vulnerabilities.

Core Contribution to International Fund for Public Interest Media (IFPIM)

The International Fund for Public Interest Media (IFPIM) is an innovative, independent, multilateral financing vehicle to mobilise additional resources at scale in support of the resilience, development and independence of public interest media in low- and middle-income countries, where they often face existential threat with grave implications for democracy and development. SDC’s support will leverage Switzerland’s engagement for freedom of expression and democracy.

Core Contribution to Ground Truth Solutions (GTS) 2022-2024

By supporting Ground Truth Solutions, Switzerland aims to enable humanitarian actors to systematically consider feedback of affected populations. Adapting humanitarian interventions based on such feedback contributes to making programming more relevant and adapted to the needs on the ground. This, in turn, contributes to the larger goal of better, more efficient, more effective and more accountable humanitarian aid. Ground Truth Solutions provides the methodology and the necessary expertise to drive this agenda forward.

Social Performance Task Force (SPTF)

Savings, loans, insurance and digital finance are key enablers for low-income households to improve their livelihoods and for micro-entrepreneurs to run their businesses. The SPTF promotes client-centric and responsibly offered financial services through the application of the Universal Standards for Social and Environmental Performance Management. This will contribute to serve 60% of adults (70% women) in low-income countries not having access yet to financial services.

Contribution to UNAIDS the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS 2022-2024

Despite significant progress, HIV/AIDS continues to be a public health, human rights and development challenge. Geneva-based UNAIDS leads a multisectoral and multistakeholder response to HIV/AIDS through the provision of strategic information, analyses and political advocacy. UNAIDS contributes to prevent and reduce new HIV infections, AIDS-related deaths and related stigma and discrimination and as such, significantly contributes to end the epidemic as a public health threat by 2030 worldwide.

This is the mission of the Peace Development Advisors deployed in a joint effort of UNDP and the UN’s Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs (DPPA). By supportingt his expert pool, Switzerland enhances the work of the multilateral system in the most difficult contexts.

Au Burkina Faso, plus de 3 millions d’enfants de 6 à 16 ans sont exclus de l’école du fait de la crise sécuritaire et des faiblesses structurelles du système éducatif. Pour y faire face, la Suisse soutient le renforcement de l’accès, de la qualité et de la gouvernance de l’éducation, afin d’assurer une éducation inclusive, équitable et protectrice. Cet appui vise à donner aux jeunes de meilleures perspectives d’insertion socioprofessionnelle et à leur offrir des alternatives à la migration irrégulière et à l’adhésion aux groupes extrémistes violents.

Remotecoders: IT talents from the MENA Region

Remotecoders offers a solution to the geographic mismatch between ICT talents in North Africa and ICT jobs in Europe. Local vulnerable youth, women, refugees and migrants in North African countries are recruited, trained and connected to remote ICT work opportunities in Europe and local jobs. With this contribution, SDC is addressing the challenges of job creation, digitalization, migration and protection of vulnerable groups by testing an innovative partnership (Private Sector Engagement).
International Recruitment Integrity System (IRIS)

When recruitment is fair and ethical, it benefits migrant workers, employers, as well as governments in countries of origin and destination. Switzerland partners with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) on the consolidation of the International Recruitment Integrity System (IRIS), a global initiative to promote ethical international recruitments that engages different actors. Engaging with the private sector will be at the center of this phase.
Contribution to UN Trust Fund to End Violence against Women 2021-2025.

The purpose of this proposal is to renew Switzerland’s support to the UN Trust Fund to End Violence Against Women (UNTF). The UNTF is the only UN system-wide fund and global multilateral grant-making mechanism devoted to local and national efforts to end violence against women and girls (EVAW/G), including in fragile and conflict affected contexts. Promoting gender equality through combatting all forms of gender based violence is a key strategic objective of Switzerland’s International Cooperation Strategy. The UNTF has the added value of combining systemic engagement (e.g. through global advocacy and legal reform) and outreach to the most at-risk women and girls.
