Industrial Energy Efficiency

The project is a collaboration between the UNIDO, the Departments of Trade and Industry (DTI) and of Energy (DoE) financed by SECO and DFID (UK). The project aims at a shift in industrial energy use practices in South Africa and possibly in the Southern African Region, with a view for industry to achieve a greater energy efficiency, in order to improve energy security and ensure continuity in power supply.


Pisco water supply rehabilitation project

Switzerland supports in partnership with the German Development Bank KfW the restoration of the water supply system in the Peruvian cities of Pisco and San Andrés.


Osh/Jalalabad Water Rehabilitation Project

The basic objectives are to restore an uninterrupted supply of quality water to 260'000 people in Osh and 75'000 people in Jalal-Abad as well as to strengthen the capacity of the publicly owned water companies in technical, organizational and financial aspects. The project is co-financed with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.



Bishkek Water Supply, Phase I

The Bishkek Water Company (BVK) provides potable water for domestic, commercial and public sector customers and collects and treats wastewater. BVK serves about 950,000 people and 5,500 institutional customers, including companies in the city and surrounding villages. Most of their infrastructure is outdated. Water losses are estimated at 25% of water supplied to network. BVK has limited capacity to carry out a rehabilitation programme on a larger scale.


IMF Regional Technical Assistance Center, Phase III

The overall objective of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Regional Technical Assistance Centers (RTACs) in Africa is to facilitate the implementation of the long-term development objectives of beneficiaries as articulated in their development and poverty reduction strategies in core areas of the IMF's expertise through building institutional and human capacity in public financial management, revenue mobilization, monetary and financial systems and statistics.



Reduction of the vulnerability of agriculture supply chains and farmers

Since 2002 SECO and the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs have provided support through a Multi Donor Trust Fund (MDTF) to the Agriculture Risk Management Team (ARMT) of the World Bank to carry out a program of work focused on promoting the application of market-based measures to manage selected risks in developing country agriculture. The current phase of this program started in 2010 and has been prolonged until end 2016 for a total initial budget of USD 5’000’000.- including a SECO contribution of USD 3’800’000.-


Rehabilitation of Egyptian Radiology Services, Phase III

After the successful implementation of the Second Phase, which lasted between 2007 and 2011, a Third Phase to extend the digital radiology services has been initiated. Following activities are planned to reach this objective: the rehabilitation of sites receiving mainly digital radiology services and equipment, the provision of radiology equipment, the assistance for the maintenance and financial sustainability of the radiology technology and the training and capacity building programme for the radiology staff. The implementing agency for this project is the Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population. This is a project mixed-financed by Switzerland (50% by SECO, 50% by Swiss banks).


GEDAP I Electricity Sector Reform and Extension

The program aims at improving the performance of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCO) as well as financing electricity access in poor urban areas. The project is part of a larger program entitled Ghana Electricity Development and Access Project (GEDAP) led by the World Bank.


Karakol Water Supply Project

The proposed Project aims at improving the water supply in Karakol town by rehabilitation of the water supply infrastructure and by institutional development of the water utility. The Project shall support the Government’s strategy of decentralization and introduction of cost recovery policies.


Trams for Belgrad

30.06.2004 - 31.12.2018

The project aims to transport used trams and trailors from Basel to Belgrade and the trams to be taken over and efficiently put into use by the Belgrade Transport Company. Through the project, the service and comfort of public transport users is increased and the Transport Company Belgrade has the necessary rolling stock available to fully serve the tram network in Belgrade. The project enjoys a high visilibity in Belgrade.

The main direct beneficiary of the project is the Belgrade Transport Company GSP and the City of Belgrade.
