Embassy of Switzerland in the United Arab Emirates
Security situation in the region
Dear Swiss nationals,
Due to the current situation in the region, the FDFA advises against tourist and non-essential travel to the Gulf States (Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Oman).
Several national airlines (Emirates and Etihad among others) resumed limited operations at the international airports of Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
The airline Gulf Air operates direct flights from Bahrain to Europe via the Saudi airport in Dammam. Bus transfers from Manama to Dammam are likewise organized by Gulf Air.
Please remain in contact with your travel agency or airline to seek advice on available departure options. Should you decide to leave the region overland to a neighboring country, please allow sufficient time for travel and border crossings, check in advance which border posts are accessible as well as the applicable visa requirements, and proceed to the airport only with a confirmed ticket. The decision to depart remains your personal responsibility and travel costs must be borne by the individuals concerned.
Please ensure that your contact details and current location are kept up to date at all times in the Travel Admin app.
In case of emergency, the FDFA Helpline in Bern can be reached 24/7 at +41 800 24 7 365 / +41 58 465 33 33 or by email at helpline@eda.admin.ch.
As the official representation of Switzerland, the Embassy covers all matters concerning diplomatic relations between the two countries. It represents Swiss interests in the areas of political, economic, financial and legal affairs, as well as science, education and culture.
