We are looking for a dedicated and knowledgeable professional who is a strong team player with proven work experience as a Political/Economic Officer or similar, with a profound understanding of the economic developments, trends and challenges in Thailand and beyond, as well as Business and Trade. Strong analytical abilities and good organisational skills required.
1. Responsibilities:
The Economic Officer provides policy advice and analysis in economic matters to the diplomatic team. This includes:
- Monitor Thailand’s economic developments, its role in the global economy, and emerging issues; analyse, report, and advise on the country’s trade and investment policies and regulatory developments relevant to Swiss commercial interests.
- Support the bilateral economic relations Switzerland-Thailand, including the implementation and promotion of the forthcoming Free Trade Agreement EFTA-Thailand.
- Lead the Embassy’s projects aiming to strengthen Switzerland’s economic profile in Thailand (e.g. innovation, science and technology, sustainability, start-ups, business and human rights).
- Contribute to advancing the interests of the Swiss business community in Thailand. Ensure that business insights inform the economic policy discussions.
- Coordinate closely with the Swiss-Thai Chamber of Commerce (STCC) and the Swiss export and investment promotion agency to provide complementary trade and investment services for Swiss industries and companies, such as supporting advocacy by connecting the companies with relevant policymakers and government bodies.
- Maintain and expand working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, including Thai authorities, businesses, industry associations, political figures, civil society, media, and academia.
- Prepare presentations, speeches, talking points, and background documents for the Head of Mission and his/her deputy.
- Organise meetings with key actors, including note taking during conversations.
- Follow Thailand’s engagement with international organisations, such as ASEAN, OECD, WTO, and the UN hub in Bangkok. Substitute for the political officer in charge of domestic and human rights matters.
- Deliver accurate written and oral Thai-English and English-Thai translations as needed.
2. Requirements:
- Profound interest in and understanding of Thailand’s economic affairs. Proficiency in analysis and reporting.
- Established connections with political and economic stakeholders.
- High motivation to contribute to the promotion and representation of Switzerland’s political and economic interests, values, and objectives in Thailand.
- Aptitude to represent the Embassy in public.
- Strong sense of responsibility, loyalty and efficiency. Aptitude to work autonomously and in a team, to think strategically, and to take initiatives.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, open-mindedness and inter-cultural flair, integration into a multi-lingual environment.
- Minimum 3 years of relevant professional experience, such as in international organisations, government agencies, journalism, civil society organisations, academia, or related fields.
- Thai mother tongue and English proficiency required, with strong analytical and reporting skills. Knowledge of one or more Swiss national languages (German, French, or Italian) is an advantage. Open to all nationalities.
- Degree in Political Sciences, Economics, International Relations, or a related field.
Remuneration: A competitive compensation and benefits package is offered.
Starting date: 1 December 2025 or upon mutual agreement.
Duration of employment: Permanent position.
