For Switzerland’s development cooperation, gender equality is a priority. Gender equality is the equal enjoyment by women and men of socially valued goods, opportunities, resources, and rewards. The aim is not that women and men become the same, but that their opportunities and life chances become and remain equal. Switzerland ensures that all projects carefully consider the impact on men and women, and aim to improve household relations such as promoting equal decision making on health care and resources.
HIV / AIDS
With an estimated 5.1% of the 50 million population in Tanzania HIV positive (Tanzania Demographic Health Survey, 2010), HIV and AIDS is still a challenge to the health system and to development in Tanzania. All Swiss interventions, including those of project partners, will strive to “do no harm” based on analysis of potential negative implications of development programming on people living with HIV and AIDS.
