Response to Earthquake M7.8 February 6th 2023 in Turkey and Syria
Following a severe Earthquake in the region of Gaziantep of a magnitude of 7.8 which caused tremendous destruction, humanitarian assistance will be provided under the form 1) of the deployment of the Rescue Chain; 2) the sending of a SET; 3) in-kind donations and 4) financial contributions for multilateral organisations or NGOs (in a separate credit proposal). Decisions on optimum use of funds will be taken by the Crisis Cell led by the HA delegate in close coordination with desk and CH representations in the region.

Background |
Ein Erdbeben der Stärke 7,8 hat am 6.2.2023 um 02H17 Schweizer Zeit (04h17 lokale Zeit) den Südosten der Türkei erschüttert. Das Epizentrum befand sich in Pazarcik an der Grenze zu Syrien. Bis am 6.2 14.00 berichten die türkischen Behörden von 284 Toten und 2'323 Verletzten. Gemäss syrischen Medienberichten belaufen sich die Opferzahlen im von der syrischen Regierung kontrollierten Gebiet auf 237 Tote und 630 Verletzte. Man muss davon ausgehen, dass sich die Anzahl der Opfer noch weiter erhöht. Die Katastrophe ereignet sich mitten im Winter mit eisigen Temperaturen und viel Schnee. Die Türkei hat zu internationaler Unterstützung für Such- und Rettungsteams aufgerufen. |
