First Visit of the Ambassador of Switzerland, Mr. Bénédict de Cerjat to Karachi (January 19-22, 2021)

Ambassador Bénédict de Cerjat, visited Karachi from 19 to 22 January 2021. The Ambassador paid homage to the founder of Pakistan, Mr. Muhammad Ali Jinnah at his mausoleum. He met the Governor of the State Bank of Pakistan, Dr. Reza Baqir and visited the state-of-the-art State Bank Museum. Being the Patron-in-Chief of the Swiss Business Council (SBC), which was established in 2008 in Karachi and unites 53 companies operating in Pakistan either as a local subsidiary or a partner of a Swiss company, the Ambassador attended its Managing Committee Meeting.

During his meeting at the Karachi Chamber of Commerce & Industry, the Ambassador stressed on the expansion of trade between Switzerland and Pakistan and said that Pakistan can import the excellent textile machinery from Switzerland to improve the quality of product leading to more exports and value addition. The Ambassador also visited the Overseas Investors Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OICCI) where Mr. Abdul Aleem, Chief Executive and Secretary General of the OCCI, gave a comprehensive presentation on the role of the OICCI in promoting foreign direct investment in the country and safeguarding the business interests of its member companies. During the trip, the Ambassador visited the newly acquired manufacturing facility of Novartis Pakistan, which will soon start producing medicines at this site. He concluded his trip by visiting the manufacturing site of SICPA Inks Pakistan (Pvt) Limited, another local subsidiary of a Swiss company.
