Background The terrorist attacks perpetrated by Hamas against Israel on October 7, 2023, has resulted in a war in Gaza, which has severely impacted access to medical services for the Palestinian civilian population. While the need for medical supplies is high, the WHO international Emergency Medical Team (EMT) mechanism is designed for short term response. Therefore, many EMTs have difficulty in maintaining supplies of critical medicines and equipment. One way to address the shortage of medical supplies is to send Interagency Emergency Health (IEH) Kits for use by international EMTs. These kits are designed primarily for “life-saving” purposes, not for health conditions requiring continued care, and can fill immediate medical gaps. WHO estimates a need for around 100 to 150 IEH Kits (for approx. 20 EMTs) to meet the needs of patients in the active and planned field hospitals and primary healthcare clinics over the next 3 to 6 months.
Objectives To enable international Emergency Medical Teams working in the Gaza Strip to maintain basic medical services for the conflict affected population.
Target groups The civilian population of the Gaza Strip, with a particular focus on mothers, children, and other vulnerable groups who are experiencing disrupted access to health services due to the ongoing conflict.
Medium-term outcomes To meet the priority basic health needs of 100’000 people over 3 months in the Gaza Strip by enabling access to needed medicines and medical devices provided by international EMTs.
Results

Expected results:   10 IEH Kits delivered by WHO to international EMTs in the Gaza Strip and used to treat patients.
