Communications and Culture Officer
Start date: July 1, 2026 (or upon agreement)
The Embassy of Switzerland in Japan is seeking to hire a Communications and Culture Officer starting on July 1, 2026, or upon agreement. This position focuses on social media management.
Core missions of the Embassy include promoting knowledge about Switzerland in Japan, facilitating Swiss-Japanese relations, and showcasing the country’s achievements in various fields including policy, innovation, economy and culture. A member of the Communications and Culture team, the position contributes to the overall external presence of the Embassy through digital storytelling, content strategy and social media.
Our ideal candidate has strong editorial competences, excellent communication skills in Japanese and English, and advanced knowledge of social media ecosystems. The candidate is familiar with platform-specific strategies (e.g., Instagram, LinkedIn, X, Facebook, TikTok) and community management practices, and brings solid project management skills.
Experience in short-form video production (Reels/TikTok), graphic design tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Canva), social media analytics, social listening tools, and paid social campaigns (ads) is highly desirable.
We require multi-tasking capabilities, a proactive attitude, a high spirit of initiative and the capacity to work under fast-paced conditions. Knowledge of one Swiss official language is an asset.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Enhance and improve perceptions of the Swiss country brand across diverse audiences through integrated digital and social campaigns
- Manage, plan and optimize the Embassy’s SNS presence using content calendars, KPI tracking, and content analytics
- Create, localize, and publish engaging content (posts, articles, newsletters, multimedia) in Japanese and/or English, applying SEO and platform-specific best practices
- Produce and edit short-form and long-form video content, as well as visual assets aligned with current digital trends and our brand guidelines
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including partners, creators, and agencies where relevant
Requirements
- Professional experience in a related field (communications, digital marketing, journalism, public affairs or project management)
- Demonstrated expertise in social media and community engagement
- Fluency and strong editorial skills in English and Japanese
- Familiarity with scheduling platforms (e.g., Loomly), analytics and social listening tools
- Experience with paid social media campaigns and performance optimization is an advantage
- Strong interest in communications, public diplomacy, and international relations
- Awareness of emerging digital trends (AI-assisted content creation, influencer collaboration, platform algorithms) and cultural sensitivity
- Strong team player with a good sense of humor
