Visit of State Secretary Schraner Burgener to Hungary

State Secretary Schraner Burgener visited Hungary on 17 April 2023. On this occasion, she was able to exchange views with her Hungarian counterparts on the challenges that exist in the area of migration and other issues of mutual concern.

Swiss State Secretary for Migration Christine Schraner Burgener visited Hungary on 17 April 2023 at the invitation of the Hungarian Ambassador to Switzerland. The State Secretary was accompanied by the Director of the Federal Office for Customs and Border Security and met with the Hungarian Minister of the Interior, Sándor Pintér, as well as with the State Secretary for European Affairs at the Ministry of Justice, János Bóka. During her meetings, State Secretary Schraner Burgener discussed the current challenges in the field of migration, particularly focusing on migration along the Balkan route. The ongoing reform of the Common European Asylum System and the challenges related to the substantial influx of refugees from Ukraine were also addressed. Both sides agreed to continue the bilateral exchange on these topics. Additionally, the Hungarian side expressed interest in the Swiss asylum system, specifically in the expedited procedures and cooperation on return policies.
