One of the major difficulties to improve health and well-being of the populations in the Mekong sub-region comes from the shortage of well-trained health sector’s human resources to contribute to the reduction of health inequalities amongst subgroups of the population (incl. gender, ethnic groups). The project aims at maintaining the IFMT training activities while preparing the transformation into a sub-regional Centre of Excellence for the health and well-being of populations living in tropical zones.

Regional Rapid Response Teams for a strengthened decentralized Rescue System in Armenia (phase II)

Since 2013, SDC has been making important contributions to the build-up of decentralized rescue teams in Armenia to be deployed in case of earthquakes and other natural or man-made disasters. Taking into account the country's high risk profile, a further upscale of the existing capacities to the level of "medium rescue" according to the International Search and Rescue Advisory Group (INSARAG) is deemed necessary in order to better reach out to trapped victims. The training and equipment of two additional regional teams is a core piece of the intervention

ACTED: Immediate and multi sector assistance to highly vulnerable conflict-affected households in Walikale Territory, North Kivu, DRC

This emergency intervention consists of two components, (i) Nonfood items direct distribution in emergency situation and (ii) support for agricultural production in areas of return. The intervention will be highly mobile and flexible in order to respond quickly to the most urgent needs. In addition, given the security and humanitarian context in Walikale Territory, marked by both displacement and return movement, the project will also participate in supporting agricultural production in order to strengthen the resilience of communities.

Sino-Swiss Low Carbon Cities Project (SSLCC)

The project will contribute to the efforts made by Chinese Metropolitan Areas to reduce the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) intensity of their development through innovation and good practices from Switzerland. GHG sets in motion potentially irreversible effects including the rise of sea levels, drought or ice melting that put particular pressure on poor segments of societies worldwide. Nowadays, about 75% of GHG are emitted in urban housing, living and income generating activities. China is accountable for about 25% of the global GHG emissions.

The fourth Phase of the Skills Development Project (SDP) in Uzbekistan contributes to the improvement and further development of the Vocational Education and Training (VET) system by introducing and strengthening the systemic approach to cooperation among stakeholders in the water sector within the cycle “Demand-Training-Job Placement”. The systemic approach to be followed in this Phase of SDP is going to serve as a blueprint for other sectors of the economy and be replicated accordingly.

Strengthening Democratic Practices in the Election Processes in Kyrgyzstan

Elections are one of the critical elements of the democratization agenda in Kyrgyzstan. The proposed project will support democratic practices in the upcoming elections 2015-2017 (parliamentarian, municipal and presidential elections) as elections represent a major means to increase citizens’ participation in political life and of voicing their concerns regarding the achievement of the objectives of poverty alleviation and human development.

Restoration of Governance and Reconciliation in Crisis-Affected Communities of Ukraine

The SDC is supporting a United Nations project in the Luhansk and Donetsk oblasts that have been affected by the conflict and are still under the control of the national government. The aim is to restore local governance and support dialogue between the various stakeholders with a view to strengthening social cohesion and economic development. This is the first major international initiative aiming at rebuilding the Donbas in eastern Ukraine.

Life without violence, from dream to reality

The SDC hopes that by backing a newly-adopted law in Bolivia on ending violence against women, it can contribute to more systematic and targeted care for female victims. Local and national authorities and the people are working together on a comprehensive approach to prevent assaults on women. Too often, attitudes are tinged with a male chauvinism that sanctions violence.

Targeted psychological support for people in the Gaza Strip

Hardly any other people in the Middle East suffer from mental health issues to the same extent as the Palestinians. The political, economic and social consequences of the closure in the Gaza Strip is affecting people’s health. The Gaza Community Mental Health Programme – supported by the SDC – is providing them with counselling, courses and therapy. 20,000 people received support in 2017 alone.

Les interventions suisses dans le domaine de la santé au Sud Kivu se concentrent sur l’appui au système public et sur la lutte contre la violence basée sur le genre. La Phase III du programme d’appui au système de santé du Sud-Kivu met l’emphase sur la qualité et l’accessibilité des soins primaires (y-inclus la santé materno-infantile et la santé reproductive des jeunes), et s’inscrit dans la continuité de l’approche systémique testée pendant les phases précédentes.
