Sanitation Market Systems (SanMarkS)

Through the project Sanitation Market Systems (SanMarkS), the poor and disadvantaged will benefit from a better wellbeing due to improved hygienic sanitation solutions which are offered by the private sector in a sustainable manner. As a result of the project, funded by SDC and UNICEF, the private sector service providers in collaboration with public actors will respond to the needs and demand of the rural poor and provide improved sanitation services to at least 450,000 people in at least six districts of Bangladesh.

Nepal, SET, Emergency Response Earthquake

An earthquake of the magnitude of 7.8 hit Nepal and neighbouring countries in the early daylight hours of 25th April 2015. The result was substantial infrastructural damage across 30 out of 75 Nepali districts and a casualty toll rising to 1’900 death by the 26the April 2015. Swiss Humanitarian Aid has taken the decision to deploy an interdisciplinary team consisting of expertise in WASH, medical response, shelter/structural engineering and logistics in order to support local and international actors in their efforts to respond to the emergency.

Sloping Land Management (SLM)

SDC has worked with the Ministry of Land and Environmental Protection since 2004 to empower farmer groups to apply new agroforestry practices on steeply sloped land. These entail participatory land use planning, reforestation and conservation farming. The concept is humanitarian in nature and designed to address the issue of food security amongst rural populations. This phase of the programme will focus on spreading these practices further and introducing methodologies which reduce the risks of disasters that threaten rural areas.

Contribution to Network for Policy Research, Review and Advice on Education and Training (NORRAG)

Being an international network, NORRAG allows policy dialogue between a diversity of actors. It provides just-in-time knowledge on international education and training policies (IETPs). It supports capacity development and evidence-based policy making, particularly in the Global South. The period of shaping the post MDGs/EFA agenda is crucial for recalling the importance of basic education and training. By covering these two themes, NORRAG is a strategic partner for SDC.

Emergency assistance to Conflict-affected population in Eastern Ukraine

Since 2014, a deep political crisis in Ukraine resulted in a major internal conflict, which led to massive displacement of civilian population and heavy destruction of infrastructures and private properties. A ceasefire lasting since 15 February 2015 has allowed the Swiss Humanitarian Aid (SHA) to conduct 2 assessment missions, which have identifed immediate assistance needed by the populations in the Oblasts of Donetsk and Lugansk.

Afghanistan Urban Peacebuilding Programme

Afghanistan’s cities grow rapidly. Crime, insecurity and social disintegration are an increasing problem for people in urban areas. The government is struggling to improve the situation affecting its legitimacy and public trust. The Afghanistan Urban Peacebuilding Programme supports municipalities and community-based structures to tackle insecurity through an inclusive approach. The ambition is twofold: improve urban security and governance for city dwellers.

Secondment Fund Horn of Africa

Protracted conflicts in the Horn of Africa, chronic food insecurity and limited access to basic services lead to millions of vulnerable people and forced displacement. The UNHCR, UNICEF, WFP, UN-OCHA, and ICRC, are key humanitarian partners of the Swiss Humanitarian Aid. The deployment of Swiss experts (secondees) to Swiss (multilateral) partner organisations is a key tool to strengthen the capacity of these agencies to more effectively deliver services to the vulnerable men, women, and children and to enhance their protection.

Emergency health response for vulnerable populations in selected health areas of Eastern DR Congo

The population in the targeted areas of North Kivu remains vulnerable to elevated levels of morbidity and mortality as a consequence of the on-going attacks by different armed groups in the different project areas. These attacks show no sign of stopping, with new developments all over Eastern DRC. The abuses carried out by various armed actors include the pillaging of belongings, destruction of crops, sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV), abductions and killings.

La politique agricole de l’Afrique de l’ouest vise la sécurité alimentaire en mettant un accent particulier sur la modernisation des exploitations familiales et au développement des filières agricoles. La DDC appui les trois principales organisations faîtières de la région à travers des contributions.

Programme d’appui aux réformes et aux élections

Suite à l’insurrection, un gouvernement transitoire a été mis en place au Burkina avec pour principale mission d’organiser des élections présidentielles et législatives crédibles avant fin novembre 2015. L’enjeu principal de ces élections générales est la restauration de la confiance des citoyennes et citoyens vis-à-vis des gouvernants. La Suisse veut y contribuer à travers l’appui aux actions coordonnées des ONG Diakonia et National Democratic Iinstitute (NDI) et en apportant une contribution au panier commun coordonné par le PNUD sur une durée de trois ans (2015-2018).
