Swiss Disaster Risk Reduction and Rapid Response Advisory Hub for Southeast Asia and the Pacific, located at the Embassy of Switzerland in Bangkok
The Asia-Pacific is the most hazard-prone region in the world, since it is highly exposed and vulnerable to natural hazards and to increasing impacts of climate change. Switzerland has therefore committed support to Southeast Asia and the Pacific in the fields of Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR), Climate Change Adaptation (CCA) and Disaster Management (DM), as part of the Swiss International Cooperation policy.
To this end, the Swiss Humanitarian Aid Unit of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) maintains a Regional DRR and Rapid Response Hub at the Embassy of Switzerland in Bangkok. Covering Southeast Asia and the Pacific, its goals are
- to incorporate aspects of CCA, Environment and DRR in SDC programmes and projects
- to monitor hazardous events and support emergency response
- to contribute to policy dialogue and strengthen capacities in Disaster
Management and Response in partnership with the ASEAN Secretariat and the ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on Disaster Management (AHA Centre).
