Federal Councillor Johann N. Schneider-Ammann pays official working visit to Brussels

Bern, 17.10.2013 - During an official working visit to Brussels on 16 and 17 October 2013, Federal Councillor Johann N. Schneider-Ammann, head of the Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research EAER, met European Commissioners László Andor (Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion) and Karel De Gucht (Trade). Discussions focussed on the issues of the free movement of persons and economic relations.

During his discussion with Commissioner László Andor, Federal Councillor Johann N. Schneider-Ammann stressed the importance of the free movement of persons for both Switzerland and the European Union, while also underlining the importance of the accompanying measures for the Swiss labour market.

At the meeting with Trade Commissioner Karel De Gucht discussions covered the comprehensive economic relations between Switzerland and the EU as well as a possible broadening of these relations. Further subjects raised during the discussion included the WTO conference in Bali in December and free trade relations with third countries.

The visit to Brussels also provided Federal Councillor Johann N. Schneider-Ammann with the opportunity to discuss over dinner questions concerning scientific cooperation with a range of figures from the field of education and research.
