The member states of the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) and Kosovo concluded negotiations on a free trade agreement on 26 September in Pristina. This will be the theme of the discussions at the meeting.
The agreement, which covers trade in goods and services, intellectual property and sustainable development, marks an important step in the deepening of economic relations between Switzerland and Kosovo. The agreement will be signed in the next few months.
In addition to the free trade agreement and its implementation, the discussions will focus on strengthening economic cooperation in the B2B (business-to-business) sector and on general developments in Kosovo.
The Federal Office of Customs and Border Security (FOCBS) registered a trade volume of CHF 137 million between Switzerland and Kosovo in 2023. According to the Central Bank of Kosovo, Switzerland is the second largest direct investor in Kosovo, with a total of EUR 1.05 billion in 2023, while Kosovar investments in Switzerland amounted to EUR 44.4 million.
