Federal Councillor Guy Parmelin to attend a meeting of European labour ministers

Federal Councillor Guy Parmelin is to attend an informal meeting of EU ministers for work, employment and social affairs in Bordeaux on Tuesday, 14 February. The meeting will focus on the impact of digitalisation and climate change on the labour market.

The talks in Bordeaux will focus on labour market policy in Europe, in particular in light of the impact of digitalisation and climate change. It will also address investment in skills, as well as ways of preparing for employment transitions and reinforcing social dialogue.

Mr Parmelin will also take part in a workshop to identify the skills needed to train for the professions of the future, and he will present current Swiss intitiatives.

He is visiting Bordeaux at the invitation of French Labour Minister Elisabeth Borne. Informal meetings of EU labour and employment ministers are organised by the rotating EU Council presidency and take place twice a year. Switzerland and the other states of the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) are regularly invited to attend. The meetings provide an opportunity to jointly address the global challenges facing the labour market. The COVID-19 pandemic has once again demonstrated the vital importance of international collaboration.
