The FDFA condemns the terrorist attacks on civilians in Colombo and several other cities in Sri Lanka. Information for travellers.

The FDFA is aware of the explosions that have killed and injured many people in Colombo, Sri Lanka, on the morning of Easter Sunday. The attacks on the civilian population are tragic and alarming and the FDFA condemns the intolerance and violence that have caused so much suffering in Sri Lanka.

On behalf of the Federal Council, President Ueli Maurer expressed his deep sympathy and condolences to the victims' families and to the Sri Lankan authorities. Ignazio Cassis, the head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, shares the shock and grief that is being felt throughout Sri Lanka. He is being kept up to date by the FDFA's Crisis Management Centre (KMZ) and the Swiss Embassy in Colombo, which are in contact with Swiss nationals in Sri Lanka and the local authorities to gather information on those affected by the attacks.

The FDFA also provides information to Swiss nationals in or about to travel to Sri Lanka via its travel advice pages and on Twitter: travel_eda-dfae. The FDFA Helpline (tel. +41 800 24-7-365, email helpline@eda.admin.ch) is open for people needing information or assistance abroad. Travellers are asked to comply with the authorities' instructions and to stay in contact with their travel agency and family members.
