Mr Burkhalter will also discuss bilateral and multilateral relations with Switzerland with his various interlocutors. Each of these Central Asian countries has been working closely together with Switzerland within the Bretton Woods institutions. The five countries are part of the Swiss voting constituencies in the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank.

The talks will also focus on development assistance projects supported by Switzerland in Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. In addition, three memorandums of understanding establishing a framework for diplomatic relations between Switzerland and Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan will be signed. Mr Burkhalter's trip will also be an opportunity to take stock of economic relations.
