The President of the Confederation, Micheline Calmy-Rey, head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, will make an official working visit to Poland on 16 June 2011. On 1 July 2011, Poland will take over the presidency of the Council of the European Union for six months.

During her working visit to Warsaw, Mrs Calmy-Rey will have talks with the President of Poland, Bronislaw Komorowski, and with the Deputy Prime Minister, Waldemar Pawlak.

On 1 July 2011, Poland will take over the presidency of the Council of the European Union from Hungary for the second half of this year. For this reason, in addition to bilateral questions, the talks will focus on relations between Switzerland and the EU.

Poland is one of the new EU member states that Switzerland has supported in the framework of its contribution to overcoming the economic and social disparities in the enlarged European Union.
