First meetings in the framework of the regular political dialogue with the Federative Republic of Brazil

Today, Federal Councillor Micheline Calmy-Rey, head of the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, has received Antônio de Aguiar Patriota, Secretary-General of Foreign Relations of the Federative Republic of Brazil, for a courtesy visit. Mr Patriota is in Switzerland for talks in the context of the regular political dialogue between Switzerland and Brazil.

Micheline Calmy-Rey and Antônio de Aguiar Patriota discussed current international political issues. They welcomed the holding of the first talks in the context of the political dialogue planned as part of the strategic partnership between Switzerland and Brazil.

The talks, which were conducted with the State Secretary, Peter Maurer, directly followed the meeting with the head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, and enabled Peter Maurer and Antônio Patriota to discuss several subjects of shared interest, as well as cooperation in particular in the fields of global governance, the environment, sustainable development, human security, as well as developpment, disarmament and nuclear non-proliferation.

The political dialogue is an annual consultation mechanism planned as part of the strategic partnership that was concluded by Federal Councillor Calmy-Rey and the Brazilian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Celso Amorim, during Mrs Calmy-Rey’s visit to Brazilia on 14 August 2008.
