Bern, Press releases, 16.04.2010

In her capacity as President of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, Micheline Calmy-Rey will travel to Sarajevo on Monday 19 April 2010 for a series of talks.

As President of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, the Head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs will conduct talks with representatives of the authorities and of the political parties of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and with others.

Bosnia and Herzegovina has been a member of the Council of Europe since 2002. With her visit Mrs Calmy-Rey wishes to demonstrate the interest of the Committee of Ministers in the implementation of reforms to the constitution of Bosnia and Herzegovina with the aim of improving the functioning of its democratic institutions, as well as in ensuring respect for the European Convention on Human Rights and accelerating the reforms needed to fulfil the obligations and commitments the country undertook when it joined the Council of Europe.

The visit is also intended to enable Mrs Calmy-Rey to hear different points of view on the current political situation and on the reforms under way in the run-up to the general elections scheduled for October this year.
