Bern, Press releases, 26.05.2009

Today, Tuesday 26 May 2009, an official meeting took place in Bern between the Japanese Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, Kenichiro SASAE and the State Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Michael Ambühl.

This visit inaugurates a political dialogue between Switzerland and Japan aiming to improve the structure of the political exchanges and cooperation in various fields between the two countries. The agenda of the meeting includes a review of recent developments in the bilateral relations, a discussion on recent international events, and an examination of the potential areas of cooperation in particular within multilateral forums.

The encounter takes place in the context of the excellent relations that Japan and Switzerland enjoy and which were highlighted last February by the signing of a free-trade agreement and an economic partnership.
