Heat insulation and energy-efficient equipment in public hospitals

Switzerland is supporting the improvement of energy efficiency in 24 Lithuanian maternity wards. Thanks to improved building insulation, women in childbirth and their newborn babies enjoy better conditions, hospital operating costs are reduced and environmental protection is promoted.

Child Protection in Tourism, Phase II

This project will contribute to improving quality and competitiveness in travel and tourism, an economic sector providing significant economic and employment benefits in developing countries. By strengthening a voluntary sustainability standard, the proposed project will support institutional expansion and infrastructure development for TheCode.org, in order to prevent and combat sexual exploitation of children in tourism and to improve the tourism sector's sustainability and competitiveness. The specific objectives of this proposal include the establishment of the Tourism Child-Protection Code of Conduct as a voluntary sustainability standard and quality control mechanism in tourism, and to strengthen its global organizational structure- to improve the quality of the Code implementation, by strengthening the national, regional and international implementation- to support the implementation of the Code in Switzerland through the local code representative (LCP), ECPAT Switzerland.

Since its launch Top10 China has aimed to inform and influence Chinese manufacturers, retailers and government by becoming an international benchmark for product energy performance. Biomass Cogeneration Plant in Lebork

The city of Lebork with its 35'000 inhabitants is located in the Pomorskie Voivodship in Northern Poland. The Pomorskie Voivodship, with its vast forests, has an important potential for the exploitation of renewable energy sources in general and biomass in particular. Today, energy demand is covered by coal. The project aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and to increase health and living conditions in the city of Lebork by introducing a biomass based heat and power plant to supply base load heat and electricity to the city’s district heating system.

Organic Market Development

This project is a follow up of the project "organic certification and market development" which laid the ground for introducing organic farming in Ukraine which was inexistent when SECO started its work in 2007. The project aims at strengthening the competitiveness of Ukraine's organic agricultural sector by 1) increasing the quality and trade volume of selected organic arable crops from small and medium sized farms for export, 2) increasing the quality and trade volume of organic dairy products from small and medium sized farms for the domestic market, and 3) developing a trademark for regional food products and tourism for the Carpathians, 4) improving commercial organic services, and 5) fostering a conducive environment for the development of the organic sector. It is being implemented by the Swiss Research Institute for Organic Agriculture (FiBL), in cooperation with the stakeholders of the organic sector in Ukraine.
