New Paths to Peace: Women, Peace and Security
Violent conflicts, fragility and militarization are increasing globally, while rights are reversed, civic space is shrinking, and women’s rights organisations are massively defunded. Yet, building peace requires locally rooted approaches. Women and girls, often facing the greatest harm, remain largely excluded from peace efforts, despite strong evidence that their participation leads to more durable peace. PeaceWomen Across the Globe (PWAG) strengthens local initiatives that advance women’s participation, protection and visibility, thereby promoting inclusive and sustainable peace.

| Contesto | Todays global peace and security are shaped by intersecting crises, from protracted conflicts and climate shocks to shrinking civic space and rising gender-based violence disproportionately affecting women and girls. Twenty-five years after the UN Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 1325, 113 countries, including Switzerland, have adopted National Action Plans (NAP) on Women, Peace and Security (WPS), yet implementation remains uneven, and women remain underrepresented in decision-making, peace processes, and recovery efforts, despite clear evidence that their full, equal, meaningful, and safe participation strengthens conflict prevention and sustainable peace. As conflicts evolve and formal processes stall, locally led peacebuilding often has the greatest impact. This underscores the urgent need for locally grounded, gender-responsive approaches that ensure women’s participation and advance sustainable, inclusive peace. |
| Obiettivi | (will be revised during the first year of the programme) The women who are closest to and most affected by armed conflict have the expertise, knowledge and relationships to advance their visions for peace and for the transformation of society. They are included fully and equally in all stages of peace processes. |
| Gruppi target |
Direct: women’s right defenders and peacebuilding organisations, and more broadly women and girls in conflict-affected communities Indirect: individuals and communities affected by violent conflict, local and national governments involved in peacebuilding processes, women and girls with disabilities and other vulnerable or marginalised groups. |
