Gender Mainstreaming 2022-2025 Phase 7

In collaboration with selected strategic partners, the SDC will promote gender equality and women’s rights in 3 priority areas that correspond to the SDC’s strategic interests and where it can promote innovative approaches: Peace building and crisis response, data driven advocacy and policy influence, and mobilising quality investments for gender transformative change. This will contribute to accelerate the implementation of the SDG 5 and to reduce its current funding gap.

Contexte Progress towards Gender inequality is too slow and piecemeal. Despite some progress in certain areas over the past decades, gender inequality persists in all areas of life, mostly to the detriment of women and girls. Women’s vulnerability and the difficulties they face are all the higher in situations of crisis and conflict. SDG 5 on gender equality is one of the most underfinanced goals and implementation is lagging behind. The SDC is well positioned to address this global challenge as it has been active in this regard for many years – with tangible results. In future, it will further strengthen its profile with promoting innovative approaches in gender financing, with stronger engagement in the important field of gender data, and with its increased commitment to the women peace and security agenda (UN Security Council Resolution 1325).
Objectifs Contribution to enhanced implementation of women's rights, gender transformative change and gender equality.
Groupes cibles Direct target group are women organisations, networks and activists, as well as global initiatives that promote gender equality and women’s rights. Indirect target groups are governments, private sector and other relevant stakeholders engaging with these groups and initiatives, as well as SDC programmes and staff that shall benefit from developed expertise. Finally, the SDC benefits from its profile as credible and committed development partner.

Learning processes, products (gender toolbox), events and trainings on several topics have ben realised. This resulted in better integration of gender into programmes, annual reports. But there is still room to improve know how transfer and results for more transformative change.

Collaboration with strategic partners generated some tangible results: More competent women activists in peacebuilding and climate change, their leadership in policy dialogue and in progress monitoring of policy implementation. But, future contributions need more focus and scale in key strategic areas instead of scattered small contributions.

Increased efforts in contributing to global/national policy processes, a.o. global platforms, action coalitions, co-chairing donor working groups, with inputs to strategic review processes of the FDFA.
