Being committed to the Human Rights and Millennium Develop­ment Goals, CARITAS engages in long-term development cooperation, disaster risk reduction and humani­tarian aid.

Contexte

A third of all people in developing regions live of less than 1,25 USD a day, about 1,4 Bio. people live under the extreme poverty line, the Millen­nium Development Goals are not achieved yet.

Objectifs

Enhancing the prosperity and resilience of poor communi­ties and supporting them in overcoming crises.

Marginalised groups in Africa, Asia, Latin America,  the Middle East & Northern Africa, Eastern Europe & CIS

Effets à moyen terme

Food Security: Poor communities are able to increase their income and agricultural output and to secure their livelihood in a sustainable and resilient manner.

Water, Sanitation & Hygiene: Poor communities are able to improve their access to water and sanitation.

Human Rights, Social Justice & Peace: Marginalised groups are empowered to participate in the political, eco­nomic and social life of their country without discrimina­tion. Marginalised children get access to education.

Disaster Risk Reduction & Climate Change: Rural communities are empowered to reduce their vulnerability towards natural hazards and to adapt to climate change. By introducing renewable energy sources and efficiency technologies positive developments are made possible.

Humanitarian Aid: Disaster affected people are sup­ported in overcoming crisis and in rehabilitating.

...to reduce their vulnerability, enhance their capability to adapt to climate change and to en­hance their energy access in a sustainable manner

Principaux résultats antérieurs:  

Millions of people were supported with humanitarian aid (shelter, food, earthquake-resistante housing); got access to clean drinking water & sanitation; were empowered to improve their wellbeing by means of trainings in hygiene, sustainable agricultural, human rights or gender; were supported to make their communities less vulnerable to shocks and shifts stemming from natural hazards or conflicts; and were supported in their struggle to get their voices heard by their own governments.

On a conceptual level, CARITAS has integrated the objectives of Humanitarian Aid, Development Cooperation and Disaster Risk Reduction into a overarching framework and stepped up its engagement in climate change adaptation and mitigation.
