Contexto Since the outbreak of Sudan crisis in April 2023, 671,061 people crossed the border into South Sudan as of 13 May 2024, (according to IOM and UNHCR), nearly 80% of them are South Sudanese returnees and 20% are Sudanese refugees. Joda - Renk corridor is the main entry point. The flow of returnees and refugees have slowed slightly to 1000/day relative to peak flows between October 2023 and January, 2024 when daily average reached nearly 3000/day. Most of the arrivals lack assets and resources to support their families and are heavily reliant on host community and humanitarians for food and basic services. As fighting in Sudan continues to displace people, and with a projection of at least 1,000 new arrivals per day in the coming months, the population concentration has become a critical concern. Therefore, Joda, Renk and Manyo have been identified to address the needs of the population. Manyo being a major final destination for returnees.
Objetivos The intervention aims at providing the crisis-affected communities in Upper Nile with immediate relief and improved living conditions in the temporary sites before their onward movement, and to enhance the social cohesion with the host communities.
Grupos destinarios The Sudan crisis affected population in Renk, Joda and Manyo. It is estimated that an additional 420,000 returnees and refugees will seek refuge in South Sudan during 2024.
Efectos a medio plazo The Sudan crisis affected population in Renk, Joda and Manyo has reduced vulnerabilities and improved living conditions in transit and areas of return.
