The Locarno Film Festival is one of the major international film festivals worldwide. The SDC supports the Open Doors category, which champions film-makers from countries of the Global South and East. This year's films are from Latin America and the Caribbean. SDC Director General Patricia Danzi will present the main prize in the Open Doors category on the Piazza Grande on 9 August.

Location: Locarno

Locarno is a major date in the film year alongside Cannes, Venice and the Berlinale. The SDC has been involved in the festival since 2003 through its funding of the Open Doors category, which promotes film-makers from the Global South and East.

On the evening of 9 August, SDC Director General Patricia Danzi will present the CHF 50,000 Open Doors main prize on stage at the Piazza Grande. From 7 to 10 August, the SDC's social media accounts (Instagram, Twitter, Facebook) will be getting a look behind the scenes at Open Doors.

Every three years, Open Doors launches a new cycle focusing on a different region in the world where opportunities for film makers and culture promotion are particularly limited. 2022 is the first of three festivals dedicated to Latin America and the Caribbean.

Open Doors has so far championed over 1,400 film makers and 265 projects in search of co-financing or co-production in more than 80 countries.
