Private investment is an essential building block for the financing of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. International Investment Treaties (IIT) are an important component of global economic governance which influence investor-state relations. Today, a dynamic international debate on IIT is taking place, and reform options are being explored.

  • How are the debates on IIT and the efforts to increase private sector contribution to sustainable development related?

  • What kind of treaty arrangements could strengthen the commitment of States, investors and enterprises to sustainable development and responsible conduct?
