Einer der Schwerpunktsbereiche der DEZA-Kooperations-strategie für BiH 2009-2012 ist Gesundheit. Angesichts der langjährigen erfolgreichen Zusammenarbeit im Bereich Familienmedizin wurde die DEZA von den Gesundheitsministerien angefragt, diese bei der Reform der Gesundheitsversorgung psychisch Kranker zu unterstützen.Die Kantone Genf, Jura, Fribourg und Bern haben im gleichen Zeitraum der DEZA mitgeteilt, dass sie grundsätzlich bereit sind, ein Kooperationsprogramm in BiH zu unterstützen. Durch gemeinsame Abklärungen und Planungsmissionen vor Ort wurde das vorliegende Projekt erarbeitet.

In the great oases of the north, where water is abundant, the conditions for the practice of market gardening and the cultivation of fruit trees are favourable. The production of dates and the activity of gardening provide revenues that families need to feed themselves and access education and health. For several decades, this remarkable potential has been threatened by growing desertification.
