Background

By September 2017, there were 211,104 refugees and asylum-seekers registered with UNHCR Egypt, out of which 2690 are Un-Accompanied Children (UAC) between 15 to 18 years of age.  Thirty one percent of refugees live on the North Coast, an area which lacks a lot of services. This project will respond to the need to provide emergency assistance to unaccompanied minors and children and will respond to the absence of qualified local implementing partners in the field of legal aid on the North Coast. It aims to provide direct assistance to 1,400 refugee children and unaccompanied minors, deliver direct legal assistance to 2000 refugees and offer cash grants to support 600 refugee businesses for income-generation and self-reliance.

Objectives

The project aims to strengthen the resilience and protection of vulnerable refugees and migrants through access to legal services, as well as improved livelihood (through cash grants) and access to child protection services.

Target groups

Vulnerable refugees living in Egypt’s north coast area, unaccompanied minors, and Egyptians in the host communities.
