Both sides praised the state of bilateral relations between the two countries, which have deepened in recent years. Cooperation related to Switzerland’s EU enlargement contribution to certain member states was also addressed. One of the projects supported by Switzerland involves helping Bulgaria to set up a vocational education and training system.
Mr Maurer set out the state of relations between Switzerland and the European Union. They also discussed Bulgaria’s next steps on the path to being admitted to the Schengen Area. The final decision rests with the EU member states, but Switzerland has assisted Bulgaria in its preparations.
As part of the meeting President Maurer and President Radev, a former Bulgarian Air Force Commander, visited the military air base at Meiringen where they observed an alert exercise.
