OCHA - Support to Yemen's Humanitarian Pooled Fund

Projekt abgeschlossen

The Yemen Humanitarian Pooled Fund (YHPF) replaced the Emergency Response Fund (ERF) in February 2015. The YHPF aims to promote a strategic and coordinated response towards the highest humanitarian priorities of the Humanitarian Response Plan (standard allocation) or due to acute emergency needs (reserve allocation). It provides funding for projects of national and international NGOs, UN agencies as well as IOM and Red Cross/Red Crescent organizations.

Hintergrund

Yemen is a large scale humanitarian crisis, with more than 80% of the population or 21.1 million people in need of some form of humanitarian assistance. Almost 13 million people are food-insecure and Yemen has one of the highest rates of child malnutrition in the world. In addition, about 20 million Yemenis have no access to improved water sources or to adequate sanitation facilities.

The humanitarian situation deteriorated dramatically with the Saudi Arabia led military intervention in Yemen against the Houthis which started on March 26 and is still ongoing. The destruction of vital infrastructure and the difficulties to bring supply goods and humanitarian aid into the country threatens directly or indirectly the lives of millions of Yemenis. By October 2015, more than 2.3 million people are internally displaced.
